Wrays Cottage offers groups of up to eight guests a truly charming stay in a peaceful North Yorkshire village. This Victorian stone cottage sits on Yorkshire’s Nunnington Estate, and has a beautifully designed interior that offers up wooden panelling, patterned textiles and artworks that pay homage to the surrounding landscapes. The cottage also sits close to the River Rye, offering lovely walks and the chance to try your hand at fly fishing during your stay.
When it comes to socialising together, you can gather in the cosy living room, with its big comfy sofas and feature brickwork fireplace. There’s a wood-burning stove here, that ensures you and your loved ones stay toasty and warm as you socialise long into the night.
The practical kitchen/diner is a great place to whip up delicious meals during your stay, with modern appliances and amenities ensuring you’re not left wanting. There’s a quaint dining table in here too for quick breakfasts, and a breakfast bar where you can perch with a glass of wine and keep the designated chef company.
When dinner is ready, serve it up in the striking dining room, which oozes rural charm thanks to yet another fireplace, exposed wooden beams and the ornate dining table. This sets the scene for fantastic celebratory meals with loved ones.
If you fancy settling down with a good book, then you can pop to the cosy snug, where there’s comfy seating and a historic map of the estate hanging on the powder blue walls. There’s also a handy utility room downstairs, for hanging coats and storing walking boots.
When night falls, the first of the four bedrooms is on the ground floor, making it ideal for those with accessibility issues. This bedroom features a king size bed with an ensuite bathroom for added privacy. The remaining bedrooms sit on the first floor, and include two super-king size bedrooms and a double. All of the bedrooms have their own unique colour palette and feature warm woollen blankets and luxury bed linen. One of the super-king bedrooms can also be arranged as a twin if needed. The house also has a superb family bathroom on the first floor, which has a spacious rainforest shower for added luxury. There’s another family bathroom on the ground floor, where a roll-top bath offers the chance for an indulgent soak after a busy day out and about.
Stepping outside, lush lawns border the rear and side of the cottage, while the elevated deck offers stunning views over the river and surrounding countryside.
If you wish to venture out and explore, from your doorstep you have access to an abundance of walking trails and bridleways, allowing you to immerse yourself in North Yorkshire’s unspoiled beauty and rich wildlife. Further afield, there’s plenty to discover, from the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall - just a quarter of a mile away, with its exquisite gardens and rotating exhibitions - to the culinary delights of Malton and the historic attractions of Ripon, including its racecourse and magnificent cathedral.
