Luxurious shepherd’s huts in the idyllic Northumberland countryside, boasting a self-catering studio and stargazing bathtub.
The ultimate romantic getaway, Wagtail offers the perfect blend of rustic charm and bespoke luxury, set in tranquil countryside surroundings. The property is made up of two cleverly joined shepherd’s huts, one containing a self-catering studio and the other an opulent bathroom and seating area. It’s there you’ll find the lavish copper bathtub underneath a glass ceiling, where you can run a deep bubble bath, enjoy a glass of wine and gaze up at the stars. There’s no TV or WiFi here, it has been designed as a refuge to disconnect from daily life and have a break from constant screens and notifications. Instead, why not relax, reconnect with nature and enjoy the wonderful views?
Wagtail neighbours the owner’s property, but has been carefully angled to provide optimal privacy. Steps lead into the first hut, which houses the kitchen, well equipped with an oven, fridge, hobs and a sink, ideal for whipping up breakfast or a light lunch. You can eat at the dining table, whilst taking in the far-reaching country vistas. The room is complete with a raised double bed, fitted with a comfy mattress and high-quality, anti-allergenic wool-filled bedding and pillows. There is plenty of storage space underneath the bed for all your holiday essentials.
A light-filled glass corridor takes you seamlessly to the next hut. Arguably more impressive than the first, this room features the glorious bathtub and ambient lighting for an atmospheric soak. It also has a separate WC, washbasin and heated towel rail, as well as two armchairs that frame a large window, overlooking the rolling fields. Premium White Company toiletries, luxury bathrobes and fluffy towels are provided for your stay. In the cooler months, the huts can be warmed by gas heating.
Outside you’ll find a delightful, enclosed garden, with seating, a chiminea and a BBQ. It’s a lovely place to relax and dine alfresco on milder days. Situated on the far side of the hut, you’ll only be visible to the cows and sheep roaming the nearby fields. Guests will also have access to a fairy-lit barn with a fire pit and bar, perfect for rainy days.
Wagtail is located on a sustainably focused, 100-acre farm, which you are welcome to explore throughout your stay, the thoughtful hosts even provide a hamper and rug for you to have a picnic. As well as the farm animals, you may spot some of the local wildlife when doing so, including deer, hares, curlews, oystercatchers and of course, wagtails!
You’ll be spoilt for choice for great walks nearby, including a path to Tibalt Burn directly from the farm, as well as Hadrian’s Wall footpath and Pennine Way slightly further afield. If you’ve worked up an appetite from all that trekking, you’ll be pleased to know that are plenty of great eateries within easy reach, from hearty pub grub to fine dining and even a Michelin starred tasting experience. Also nearby is the charming market town of Hexham and the pretty village of Corbridge, both with independent shops and restaurants.
