Charming 18th century Dovecot at Reedsford in Northumberland with bijou cosy interior, toasty wood burner and a garden for alfresco dining with views.
This unique Grade II listed tower is nestled in open countryside, surrounded by views right on the edge of Northumberland National Park. It would be a lovely romantic retreat for two, or a perfect nook for a solo traveller.
The interior has been cleverly designed with a simple organic aesthetic that makes the most of its original features and uses the available space brilliantly. You'll find white-washed walls with former hen homes used as a place for books and pretty artefacts, bespoke woodwork throughout and some modern additions to make it comfortable and convenient.
You'll enter into a small, open plan day room made light and airy by the large windows providing wonderful views of the rolling countryside. The kitchen area is fully fitted with an electric oven, two pan induction hob, a microwave and a fridge. You'll find everything you need to cook a meal which you can enjoy at the perfect for two round dining table set into the corner of the day room with soft bench seating which continues along the length of the room.
In the evening you can get cosy in the tiny snug which has cushioned bench seating by a very toasty Salamander Hobbit wood burner. Make some cocoa, snuggle under a blanket and enjoy a movie on the Sony Smart TV before bed time.
You'll find the cabin-style bed up the iron-edged stairwell, and with a 1200 pocket-sprung mattress and luxurious bamboo duvet and pillows, it's a wonderfully comfortable and very cosy place to curl up for the night. The room is kept warm by a flue from the wood burner downstairs and there's a drawer under the bed and a wooden cabinet downstairs to store your clothes.
When you wake you can head down to the bathroom which has a double-ended bath and a hand held mixer shower. You'll find fluffy towels waiting for you on the heated towel rail.
Make a coffee and enjoy the views from the day room, or if it's a sunny morning, head out into the lovely garden, settle yourself at the picnic bench and enjoy the fresh air as you make your plans for the day.
There are some wonderful walks from the doorstep straight into the Northumberland National Park and up Cheviot Hills for those who like a more strenuous hike. Holy Island, the coast and several sandy beaches are just a short 30-minute drive away, so pack a picnic and head out on an adventure.
If you need to stock up on supplies there's a fantastic village shop in Cornhill-on-Tweed which is just seven miles away and is also home to the Collingwood Arms which offers a good meal and bar. A couple of miles further along you'll find Wooler, a very pretty town which has lots of shops and a highly recommended restaurant, Milan. But if you'd prefer to cosy up in your tiny idyll in the country, the hosts can arrange a number of luxury services to come directly to you. Hire a private chef, or choose from any one of the lovely options on offer, then settle back and wait. And if you're bringing a dog friend with you and fancy a night out, a dog sitter can be arranged too!
