Deep in a thick Northumberland forest, surrounded by green pines and wild grasses, The Hemmel is a luxurious, romantic retreat perfect for enjoying some special time with a loved one. Perched on a hillside and offering wonderful views of the sweeping landscape and brooding skies, the traditional stone cottage is cosy, welcoming and warm.
Guests arrive to discover a luxury welcome basket filled with local goodies and a bottle of Berry Bros sparkling wine. In the ceramic-floored living room, there is underfloor heating keeping toes toasty and a handsome leather suite sits around the wood burner. Load up the log basket, pour a drink and watch the flames flicker in the fire, or gaze through the patio windows at the incredible starlit night skies in this designated Dark Skies area. A large standing lamp allows guests to dim the lighting, pull the curtains to and enjoy romantic suppers at the dining table for two.
During warmer months, the doors lead directly onto the outside patio area where a wooden table and benches wait. Take morning coffee listening to the birds and enjoying the fresh country air.
Cook breakfast in the modern well-equipped kitchen. It has all of the amenities guests could need to make the most of the lovely local produce. Due to the use of sustainable energy, a dishwasher is not possible to run in the cottage, but the picture window looking out from above the sink makes dishwashing more of a pleasure than a chore.
At bedtime, hunker down amongst the crisp sheets and cosy bedding of the super king-sized minimalist four poster bed. A fun shaggy fur-covered armchair sits in the corner and there is plenty of hanging and storage space for belongings. At the end of days tramping the local trails, relax in the deep bath tub and luxuriate in the complimentary Penhaligon toiletries, wrap up in the high quality bath towels and unwind while reflecting and making plans.
For nights out, there are some lovely traditional local pubs that serve great food. The highly regarded Three Wheat Heads is 12 miles away and this 300 year-old coaching inn has a cosy bar and offers fine dining. The local is The Star Inn and has a great menu which is available to take away. Charming Rothbury is picturesque and is the perfect place for picking up treats following a relaxing stroll by the riverside.
The slower pace of life and vibrant energy of the hills soothes the mind, body and soul during your stay. With this in mind, the owners along with Nichola Lawson from Harmony Spa have designed a new dedicated Holistic Healing Cabin offering a wide range of treatments from aromatherapy massage to angel reiki for you to enjoy during your stay. This charming, rrustic, wooden cabin is heated using wind felled logs, which creates a warm and inviting space in-keeping with the ‘green’ ethos and enhancing a sense of well-being whilst at Kidlandlee.
