Enjoy a marvellous stay in this quirky Northumberland retreat offering vintage décor, cosy interiors and amazing sea views.
Public transport accessible
Whinstone Cottage is a charming home in the Northumberland village of Embleton, offering couples or groups of up to three guests a peaceful stay by the sea. This quirky retreat was once the local quarry master’s office and offers panoramic rural views that stretch down to Embleton Beach.
The cottage, which is built using local whinstone, has a rustic and homely interior that combines nicely with modern amenities to ensure you and your loved ones have a comfy stay. Relax in the cosy lounge, with its stripped wood floors, exposed stone walls and lovely assortment of vintage décor. Light the log burner and keep your toes toasty and warm no matter the weather outside as you tuck into a good book or watch a movie on the smart TV.
When it comes to meal prep, the farmhouse-style kitchen has all the amenities you need to prepare hearty feasts during your stay. And when dinner’s ready, you can dine on the scrubbed wood table in the kitchen or the dining table in the sitting room.
When the weather’s warm outside, step through the French doors in the living room to the garden, where you can sit at the alfresco dining table and take in the amazing views of the garden and sea. This is a lovely spot to sit with a drink in hand in the evening before heading back inside for a peaceful night’s sleep. The garden hedges are deliberately kept low to allow for views across the adjacent garden to the sea.
The cottage has two bedrooms on offer. The first is the double bedroom, which is dressed in lovely William Morris curtains, with antique furniture and direct access to the bathroom. The single bedroom also has a small cloakroom with a WC and sink, and there’s a pull-out trundle bed for an additional child if needed.
Nestled in a setting of breathtaking natural beauty, Whinstone Cottage is your perfect escape. Whether you’re a beach lover, a keen bird watcher, a golfer, a walker or simply a nature enthusiast, this charming retreat ticks all the boxes.
Just a leisurely 10-minute walk downhill takes you to the golden sands of Embleton Beach and the iconic England’s Coastal Path. Head right for a scenic adventure to Dunstanburgh Castle and the fishing village of Craster, or wander left to discover the picturesque Low Newton and its famous Ship Inn. For a taste of local life, the traditional Grey’s Inn is conveniently across the road and the Village Farm Shop offers a delightful selection of regional produce.
Further afield, you’ll find a treasure trove of Northumberland’s gems, including the majestic Alnwick Castle, the historic village of Bamburgh, the mystical Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the wildlife haven of the Farne Islands.
