Swap dazzling city lights for sparkling starry nights at these Old Town Farm Cottages in Northumberland’s beautiful National Park. Nestled one mile from Otterburn in the flourishing Rede Valley, the luxuriously converted barns offer you the perfect escape to the country. Unwind in the peaceful, private gardens and marvel at the uninterrupted views, breathing in the fresh, country air and admiring Mother Nature’s jewels. Head out on carefree childhood adventures or romantic woodland strolls, stopping off at the iconic Alnwick Castle or spectacular, sandy coast.

The two-bedroom cottages are set in the grounds of a working farm and have views across the grazing pastures with their cattle, sheep and lambs. Expertly converted to become chic country homes, they each blend original farmhouse features with a stylish modern twist. Relax in comfy living areas with their roaring log burners, looking up at characterful beamed ceilings whilst sinking into sumptuous sofas. Floor-to-ceiling windows let the natural light flood in, while contemporary country kitchens have everything you need to cook up some locally sourced delights.

The Granary is a gorgeous, two-storey house set at the end of a three-cottage row and is adjacent to some bustling sheep pens. Boasting quirky, upside-down living and a quaint cottage garden, it's ideal for families, friends and loved-up couples. There’s comfy living areas with exposed stone walls, along with a stargazing studio and a sweet Juliet balcony. Two plush double/twin bedrooms complete the accommodation and are joined by a sleek en-suite and a large family bathroom. The master king-size room even has massive patio doors which open into the blooming garden and the Great Outdoors. The Granary's garden is not enclosed, so there are no dogs allowed at this cottage.

The Hemmel is an equally impressive retreat offering one-storey living around a shared, open courtyard. Featuring a fresh, open-plan design with high vaulted ceilings, it is a light and airy cottage with views across the countryside. Cosy underfloor heating adds a touch of indulgence, while large patio doors open out into a private, country garden. Two charming bedrooms share a deluxe shower room and are fitted with star-filled skylights and sink-in king-size/twin mattresses. This cottage has a securely fenced garden and is dog friendly.

While away your days in the comfort of your cottage, soaking up the stunning vistas and tasting the delicious local produce. There are piles of books and games to keep you entertained, along with TVs and WIFI for those rainy days. Use the vintage binoculars to spy on the wildlife or plan out your walks on the handy, local maps. With serene lakes, enchanted forests and the famous Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland has an abundance of rich and interesting sights to explore.

We had a fantastic stay at The Granary, Kate was a great host, very thoughtful and keen to help. We loved the cottage, it has great views and has been decorated tastefully. Other highlights were the clear views of the stars at night and the wildlife we saw, both at the bird feeders and on the farm. It was cold and dark by the time we got there and we arrived to a homemade cake, a lit fire and a torch to borrow. Perfect! We would love to return one day! Thanks again, Natasha x

We stayed in the Granary cottage. It is in a super location for exploring the area with lots of villages and towns within an acceptable driving time. The cottage is well laid out with everything you could need. We were met by the host, Kate, who was on hand to help with settling in and was a super host without being intrusive. Her welcome lemon drizzle cake was delicious. The views from the cottage are amazing and i was at my most relaxed sitting upstairs in the living area in the kitchen watching out of the huge french doors, seeing the sheep and lambs and listening to the birds. The cottage is well furnished and comfortable. Kate provides lots of extras that aren't always included, such as cleaning cloths, sprays, toilet and kitchen roll etc. The appliances are of an excellent standard and lots of space to store food and drinks. We were thankful to be able to use Kate's EV charger for our electric vehicle. We had the best time here and will definitely return in future.

Amazing cottage and welcoming host. You won't be disappointed if you choose here. We stayed in The Hemmel. It was clean, spacious, cosy everything you would expect and more. The log burner was a huge selling point for us. We'll definitely be back!

The Hemmel is a perfect retreat in picture perfect surroundings. The cottage has everything you need and really felt like our home for a week. Kate is the perfect host and we appreciated the little touches - fresh flowers/cake on arrival. The cottage was really well kept and as the photos - spotlessly clean. The layout of the cottage was perfect for our pooch - all on one level and lots for her to watch out the window with a beautiful enclosed garden. Would highly recommend. Thank you again!

Kate is the perfect host, we felt so welcomed and at ease. The cottage itself is great, very clean and had all the facilities that we needed. Location is very peaceful and tranquil. Our group was x2 friends mid-20s and we had a fantastic time. Would definitely return if staying in the area. Thank you x

Fabulous cottage in a lovely setting! Peaceful garden looking out over fields of sheep towards Otterburn. The cottage is a very comfortable home away from home! It's really well equipped and exceptionally clean. Kate is a great host, very helpful. Highly recommended. Thank you for having us! The Kettlewell's.

Beautiful, well equipped and cosy cottage in a lovely peaceful location. We spent a weekend at The Granary and were very impressed. It was so pretty. Kate was very welcoming and friendly. We loved the yummy scones. Can't wait to come back!

We have stayed in The Hemmel several times and absolutely love it. It is a charming farm building converted into a stylish and homely holiday let. There is a spacious farmhouse kitchen with under floor heating, leading into a comfortable lounge with French doors to both sides, letting in lots of natural light and providing views over the countryside and the courtyard garden. There is a super stylish bathroom room with a huge shower. Then a twin and a double bedroom, both oozing rustic charm, with stylish wallpaper, exposed stone, deep windows, and skylights to the master. Kate is the perfect host. Very friendly and welcoming, with plenty of tips about things to see and do. Overall, this is the perfect relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Thank you Kate!

My friend and I had a lovely weekend staying at The Hemmel. It is a beautiful barn conversion with all the mod cons, including underfloor heating! Kate welcomed us with home made scones, and when my dog left her favourite toy behind, Kate got it back to us right away making a little dog very happy. The secure back garden is ideal if you have a dog. Set among some of the most beautiful parts of Northumberland, The Hemmel is a great base if you like walking or just getting away from it all. I can’t recommend this highly enough, and we are already planning our next trip back!

We chose the barns for their close proximity to the venue for our son’s wedding and they were the perfect choice. Everything is spot on and both barns are very special with gardens and views to die for. Kate is just a super host and is available but discreet. We spent a week exploring the area and will definitely be back one day for more. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We have stayed in both The Hemmel & The Granary. Without doubt these are two of the loveliest places we've ever stayed in the UK. Spotlessly clean, equipped with everything you could possibly want. The location is perfect, amongst a working farm (but not noisy!). Fields around the properties have sheep & Dexter cows. The owner Kate has bird feeders which attract many species of birds. Close to all the hot spots of Northumberland. Kate the owner is so welcoming (cake on arrival!), happy to help you decide on places to visit in the area. We will be going back in April 2019 for our fourth visit. Highly, highly recommended!!
