Wallops Wood have taken shepherd's huts to the next level with each one of their eight huts unique and charming in its own way, offering slightly different experiences to suit all kinds of glampers. Most sleep two with a couple that can accommodate more, and all of them would be a wonderful choice for those seeking peaceful surroundings and a memorable holiday in the South Downs National Park.
Some of these huts are tiny houses with en-suite showers, others are traditional in style. All have toasty wood burning stoves and fire pits to keep you warm and provide a place to do some basic cooking, and all come with cosy beds and deluxe linens to ensure a wonderful night's rest. They're all dog friendly and not only welcome them but provide a hamper with new toy and treats, blankets and doggy towels.
The Wriggly Inn is at the centre of the meadow and has its own ensuite shower with odourless composting toilet. It looks like the Little House on the Prairie, is completely charming and even has a solar panel so you can keep your phone charged. The soft grey and lime décor gives the place a restful vibe and it also has it own hinged bar for cocktail making!
St Brides is off grid and popular with mini-mooners and romantic couples. This tiny house looks just like a chapel so if you fancied getting down on one knee no one would blame you. It also has an ensuite shower, composting toilet and you can charge your phone here as well.
Old Winchester is a more traditional hut surrounded by bluebells in a peaceful dell. Light up the fire pit and relax in the hot tub! Bijou and perfect this hut is ideal providing you're not overly tall as the bed is six foot long.
Little Sheepwash is the oldest hut in the woods and is full of stunning period details. It has a pitched roof making it much more comfortable for the taller guests. Built in 1898 you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. There's even a proper doggy bed area under the human bed, cosy and perfect.
Butser was the first hut the hosts had and it remains one of the most popular for romantic couples. It has a wood-fired hot tub where you can soak beneath the stars in privacy. And afterwards you can settle in at the little table and chairs and enjoy a glass of wine in the open air. Five couples have gotten engaged at this hut so come prepared!
Boundary is the largest of the huts, set in its own paddock, and can accommodate up to five with its very adaptable interior. It can be booked for a couple too if you just fancy a bit more space, but overall it's a great choice for a family or a small group of friends.
Beacon is perfect for a couple with a child. It has a cosy double bed and a full length single bunk but remains surprisingly spacious and airy. It's been decked out with vintage signs and lots of delightful nods to the past.
And finally, Barrow! Another fantastic choice for the romantics. Painted a cheerful sunny yellow and chock full of vintage décor and retro fabrics, you'll feel like you travelled back to the 1950's.
For those without ensuite facilities there's the fantastic Wash Hut which has two showers with adorable watering can shower heads, composting toilets and sinks.
The South Downs offers many wonderful walks and cycling routes to enjoy, as well as some fantastic pubs including The Bat and Ball, only two miles away, a traditional Fullers pub, and plenty more a bit further afield. The White Lion in Soberton (three miles away) is a proper country pub serving excellent food. But you might want to keep things simple and just spend the morning frying some bacon and eggs outdoors for breakfast before taking a walk up Winchester Hill to admire the views. Evenings can be enjoyed toasting marshmallows round the fire or bobbing around in the hot tub with the stars above.
