This welcoming, timber-built shepherd’s hut is packed full of character and provides a quirky retreat in a picturesque setting. While set close to the owner’s home, the hut sits within its own enclosed field, making it the perfect countryside hideaway. The grass around the hut is kept close-cut but the rest of the field is free to grow wild, so you’ll certainly feel like you’ve gone back to nature here. You’ll even spot a small brook crossing the field, winding its way down towards the river.

Stepping inside the cosy studio-style open-plan accommodation, you’ll find a comfy king-sized bed tucked away at one end, and a sitting/dining area with cushioned basket chairs and a low table. The kitchen area boasts a fridge and double hob, ideal for rustling up a hearty breakfast or a light bite. The perfectly placed windows offer far reaching views across the countryside, making washing-up a pleasure rather than a chore. There is also a separate shower room with a modern shower, hand basin and WC.

The focal point of this charming property has to be the fully working, wood-burning stove. Perfect for warming your hands on a chilly evening, it also has an integrated oven for cooking up a rustic feast. And on a clear evening, you can throw open the stable-style door, dim the lights and be treated to a night sky twinkling with brightly lit stars – all without having to leave the warmth of the hut.

Peat Gate Shepherd’s Hut is nestled just above the valley of the South Tyne river, with the North Pennines to the south. The nearest shop is three miles away and the local pub is a pleasant two-mile stroll, so while you enjoy the solitude of the location, rest assured that you’re never far from a freshly pulled pint or a place to stock up on essentials.

The surrounding area boasts excellent walking and cycling routes, as well as plenty of places to fish. And if you fancy a dose of history, the iconic landmark of Hadrian’s Wall is just a short drive away.

The nearest town, Haltwhistle, is a small market town with quirky shops, restaurants and woodlands. It’s also home to Northumberland’s only open air swimming pool, so is the perfect place to visit if you fancy an alfresco dip.
