Set in 100 acres of private land in Northumberland’s rolling countryside, The Wildflower Shepherd’s Hut is a peaceful rural escape for two. Located in a quiet corner of a working farm, surrounded by forests, market towns and tranquil countryside, the shepherd’s hut helps guests get away from it all. Wake up to the sound of birdsong and while away the day relaxing in the garden with the sound of the stream in the background. As the sun sets, light the fire pit and get something sizzling away on the BBQ for dinner before a dip in the hot tub under the stars.
The traditional shepherd’s hut has been given a contemporary and luxurious twist. Step inside and you’ll find a cosy interior that has been styled to celebrate the best of the old and the new. To one side, you’ll find a huge king size bed, complete with feather and down bedding and Egyptian cotton sheets. On chilly evenings, snuggle up in bed with the log-burner crackling away merrily.
To the centre of the hut, you’ll find a well-equipped kitchenette and a small dining area where you can sit and plan the day’s adventures over breakfast. Through the sliding door to the right, there’s a modern shower room with fluffy towels and robes waiting for you.
Outside, there’s a pretty south-facing garden area with comfy lounge chairs where you can curl up in the sunshine with a good book. The fire pit doubles as a grill and you can whip up anything from cooked breakfasts to BBQ dinners over the open flames. There’s also a wood-fired hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a long walk in the countryside, perhaps while enjoying a glass of bubbles. As the sun sets, toast marshmallows over the fire pit with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and enjoy the stars, free of light pollution.
If you can drag yourself away from your little haven of peace and quiet, there’s plenty to do in the local area. Explore some of the Hadrian’s Wall Path, the route along the 2,000-year-old wall that stretches 73 miles across the country, taking you past Roman bathhouses and forts along the way. Discover some of the charming local towns, such as Hexham with its stunning architecture or Corbridge with its array of independent shops. For a change of pace, Newcastle is just 18 miles away and nature lovers won’t want to miss Derwent Reservoir or Northumberland National Park.
