Located just a few miles away from Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland National Park, Chishillway Shepherd’s Hut makes for a peaceful rural escape. Set on a working farm, you’ll have acres of countryside to share with just yourselves, a flock of sheep and a pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd of cattle. Enjoy the peace and quiet from the comfort of the wood-fired hot tub or curled up in front of the wood-burner. During the day, explore Northumberland’s beautiful beaches, majestic castles, rugged countryside and quaint market towns. In the evenings, sit back by the fire pit and enjoy the show put on by Europe’s largest area of protected night sky.
The interior of the hut has been carefully designed to create a cosy little hideaway, making the most of the space. The main area is open plan with a luxurious double bed at one end, a kitchen and dining area and a comfy seating area by the wood-burner at the other. The en-suite shower room features a constant supply of hot water and you’ll find fluffy towels at the ready on the heated towel rail.
The kitchen is well-equipped with all the basics to get you started, including a two-ring gas hob, a mini-oven and a fridge. On warm days, cook over open flames outside and enjoy the view while dinner sizzles away. There’s a comfy seating area around the fire pit which doubles as a barbecue where you can while away a sunny afternoon. Or, you could always fire up the hot tub and enjoy a glass of something as you sit back and take in the surroundings.
There are plenty of walks in the local area and you’ll find some recommended routes in the hut. There are several pubs and coffee shops nearby which make handy pitstops. Hadrian’s Wall is just a couple of miles away, so this is a must for any visitor to the area. There are also plenty of pretty market towns and villages to visit such as Corbridge and Hexham which are both around 10 miles from the hut. Kielder Water and Observatory are also well worth a visit. This is the largest man-made lake in Northern Europe and is set in England’s largest forest. The area is known for its ‘Dark Skies’ and you’ll find a star-gazing guide in the hut.
