Glamping in beautifully crafted shepherd’s huts nestled in the Eden Valley near the Lake District, perfect for romantic escapes.
Tucked away in the Eden Valley near the Lake District, the grand Rowley Estate has three shepherd’s huts in secluded locations. With a riverside setting surrounded by idyllic woodland, enjoy a slower pace of life as you unwind and reconnect with nature and yourselves.
The shepherd’s huts, Elm Retreat, Hawthorn Retreat and Rowan Retreat, are set in private woodlands on the edge of the Petteril River Valley with access to the river. Each of the huts sleeps two in luxurious king-sized beds. Surprisingly spacious, these architect-designed huts maximise your comfort and use the finest materials. Oak floors, Egyptian cotton bedding, SMEG appliances in the kitchen and a Scandinavian-style shower room all add to the sense of luxury, while the simplicity helps you to relax completely.
The huts are cosy at any time of year, with insulation provided by locally sourced sheep’s wool, heating and heated towel rails. Solar energy provides the power and the showers run hot. The beds fold away to reveal cosy dining spaces with comfy bench seats and dining tables. In the summer months, throw the doors open and take your meals outside where you’ll find outdoor furniture and a Weber BBQ. Take your breakfast down to the riverside and enjoy the fresh Cumbrian air as you sip your morning coffee. You’ll just have the birds and wildlife for company. After a day exploring the local area, gather around the fire pit, play cards and enjoy a cosy drink while listening to the owls hoot and watching the moon rise.
There’s plenty to do on the estate itself, from walking and cycling to clay pigeon shooting. Spend a sunny afternoon wandering through the valley finding the perfect spot for a picnic. If you go a little further afield, you’ll find that there’s something for everyone in the local area. For those that want to try their hand at a new activity, there’s an equestrian centre, climbing wall and even an airfield nearby. For a bit of historical interest, visit the Roman Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum located along Hadrian’s Wall. And of course, the majestic Lake District is right on your doorstep with its spectacular valleys, lakes and peaks to explore.
