Intriguing from the outside, super-cosy inside, Peddero and Tayter at Waingates Farm Huts are two wooden IgluHut the like of which you may never have seen before. Wonderfully warm and with the luxury of its own wood-burning Japanese hot tub, it’s the perfect place for a couple to experience beautiful North Yorkshire in irresistibly Instagrammable style.
Located around eight miles from Ripon, just over the eastern border of the Yorkshire Dales, you may be surprised at how much this eye-catching, hand-crafted hut packs in. There’s no traipsing to the shower block with Peddero, as it has its own stylish en suite, complete with fluffy towels, Bramley Natural toiletries, robes and slippers.
In both, the living area is cool and contemporary with a bit of a Scandi feel, although this gorgeous cabin’s origins are actually a little further east in Estonia. You have an internet-enabled TV, plus space to dine - something you could choose to do in the large, secluded garden, with rattan furniture and fire pit. There’s also a pizza oven and gas barbecue you’re welcome to use in the communal area.
The cabins have their own induction hob, microwave and fridge, plus a toaster, kettle and Nespresso machine, so you can always wake up to your favourite tea or coffee, perhaps while listening to the DAB radio or making use of the Wi-Fi.
Speaking of waking up, you could be tempted to lie in a bit longer because the king-size bed, tucked away in its alcove with curved ceiling above, is as cosy as it gets. The hut is very well insulated and made with wood shingles - it really is one you will fall in love with, especially after an evening in the hot tub gazing up at the stars.
The farm is near Roecliffe village on the banks of the River Ure, within easy reach of Ripon, Harrogate (about 12 miles away), and York (around 21 miles). Pretty Boroughbridge is just a couple of miles from the Waingates Farm Huts, a market town with some great restaurants, a cobbled square and cycling routes around the area. The pubs are good too - Roecliffe has its own, The Crown Inn, overlooking the green and, conveniently, a short, picturesque walk away.
If you venture to Harrogate, look out for the Turkish baths, Bettys tea rooms and the Mercer Gallery. Ripon has plenty to see too. Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey and beautiful Ripon Cathedral should keep you busy, but don’t stay too long - you’ve got an IgluHut waiting for you.

Leave a reviewThe accommodation is very good for or a short stay with two dogs. The hut was well appointed with ample storage space for suitcases under the large double bed. There were two chairs and a small table for dining but no chairs to relax on the inside due to space; the large double bed is your relaxing zone with a TV. The bathroom and shower was very good and worked well. The small kitchen unit had a hob and microwave and was adequate. There was a fridge but no freezer space. Outside the excellent enclosed area gave privacy and security for us and our two dogs. The hot tub took about three hours to reach a comfortable temperature; there was a good supply of logs, kindling and firelighters and matches. There was one outside settee unit and two single chairs and a chiminea. Peddero Hut, in our opinion, would not be suitable for wheelchair accessible users along with the gravel path ways. We would have given 5 stars but we felt that some of the outside space lacked some attention. The two single outside chairs needed a good clean, the key safe did not work, the entrance gate latch was a problem and did not always catch; a risk for pet owners. The owner was advised on our departure day. The location is very peaceful. There are some good walking areas close by.
