Grade II listed thatched cottage with a hot tub in North Norfolk, close to Norwich and the coast, perfect for romantic escapes.
Tucked away on the edge of the Worstead Estate in North Norfolk, you’ll find this gorgeous two-bedroom thatched cottage. It dates back to the early 19th century when Worstead was home to a thriving weaving community. The building’s original features, such as the exposed beams, the narrow winding staircase and that beautiful thatched roof are typical of that time and have earned it Grade II listed status. It now provides a cosy hideaway for couples or small families looking to escape the hustle and bustle and explore some of Norfolk’s best countryside and beaches.
You’ll find New Lane Cottage at the end of a private woodland track a short stroll from the gatehouse entrance to Worstead Park. Step inside and on the ground floor, you’ll find the cosy living and kitchen spaces. The beautiful tiled floors and exposed beams overhead immediately transport you back in time and the cottage has been furnished in a simple style that adds to this charm. Put your feet up in the living room while a fire crackles away in the log burner or rustle up a hearty dinner in the small but well-equipped kitchen. The Estate has its own Farm Shop so you can try some of the fresh produce from its 2,000 acre farm, known for its Wagyu beef.
The breakfast room and the bathroom, with its roll top bath, are also located on the ground floor while you’ll find the two bedrooms at the top of the stairs. This narrow winding staircase is a feature in itself and at the top you’ll find two doors leading to a double bedroom and a twin under the eaves of the cottage. These cosy rooms are complete with luxurious bedding and the twin room can be made up with a super-king size if required.
The cottage is surrounded by a large lawn and a patio where you can sit out on sunny afternoons, perhaps while you cook some treats from the farm shop on the BBQ. There’s also a four-seater hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a day out at the beach or a long walk in the countryside. Sit out late into the evenings and enjoy a bit of stargazing in the dark rural skies.
The cottage is set in an ideal location for those looking to make the most of the outdoors. There’s Norfolk’s flat, sweeping countryside to explore by foot or by bike and some of the best beaches in the area are nearby. Visit the seals at Horsey Gap or head up to Cromer and try your luck at crabbing from the pier. For a change of pace, the city of Norwich is nearby with its rich history and vibrant culture as England’s first UNESCO City of Literature.
