Couples and small families looking for a relaxing break to recharge and escape the hustle of modern life should look no further than Crawford’s Barn, an idyllic rural bolthole nestled in the heart of stunning Suffolk. These 18th century stables have been lovingly converted into a quirky and cosy setting that boasts modern luxury and period charm.
As you enter the ground floor, your eyes will explore the wonderful open-plan living area that features original beams and vaulted ceilings. The natural, neutral tones of the wooden beams, stone flooring and animal hide rugs contrast with the bright, inviting colours of the thick sofas and armchairs. Low windows and soft lighting make it the perfect place to unwind and relax after a long day exploring the Suffolk countryside. On those colder evenings, wrap up under a blanket and watch a film on the smart TV or get lost in a book.
The patio doors open onto your own, enclosed garden area with tables and chairs for alfresco wining and dining on those long summer evenings. The fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need to create a festival for the tastebuds. Enjoy an evening chatting over dinner on the rustic dining table and chairs, or take it outside to catch the last of the sun. Alternatively, light up the gas BBQ and whip up a summer feast. In the mornings, the smell of fresh coffee and a cooked breakfast fill the downstairs and set you up for an exciting day to come.
As the evening draws in, head upstairs to one of the two luxurious and cosy bedrooms. There’s a double for the adults and a twin for the kids, both with outstanding views over the Suffolk countryside. The shared bathroom offers everything you need including thick Egyptian cotton towels and bedding to drift off under.
Crawford’s Barn is the perfect base to explore Suffolk. The towns of Bury St Edmunds, Framlingham, Aldeburgh and Southwold all offer winding streets, artisan shops and pubs, cafes and restaurants to sample local cuisine. For those that fancy something within walking distance, the Oaksmere pub offers fine food and quality drinks.
History lovers should make a beeline for Sutton Hoo, Bressingham Steam Railway, Pakenham Water Mill and Snape Maltings, while those who prefer a more natural escape are spoiled with miles of walking and cycling across Suffolk and Norfolk’s stunning countryside. Thornham Walks offer a local taste of nature, or Thetford Forest and the Norfolk Broads are a little further afield.
