One of the original gatehouses to Worstead Park in North Norfolk, a peaceful countryside escape for families near the coast.
Located in the Worstead Estate in North Norfolk, Gatehouse North is one of two gatehouses on either side of the original entrance to the estate’s 300 acre park. The estate has a long and rich history dating back to the 16th century and the park itself was designed by the famous Humphry Repton. It was designed so that visitors would enter between the gatehouses, following a boulevard to reveal the magnificent Worstead House framed by the lake. It’s now a peaceful setting and guests are invited to explore the parkland, wandering down Lime Tree Boulevard as visitors would have hundreds of years before. With its large gardens and cosy living spaces, Gatehouse North is ideal for families looking for a quiet country escape.
The three-bedroom house has been restored to highlight its original character while adding plenty of modern-day luxuries such as a hot tub in the garden and a games room. The open plan kitchen and dining space is the central hub of the house. Here you’ll be able to rustle up all of your favourites in the well-equipped kitchen and gather round the table for family dinners. The estate has a 2,000 acre farm, known for its Wagyu beef, which can be purchased from the farm shop and is perfect for an extra special dinner.
In the evenings, put your feet up in the cosy snug with a fire going in the log burner and a good film on the Smart TV. The games room will be a hit with the kids with a pool table, air hockey and table tennis as well as some board games. When it’s time for bed, you’ll have the choice between a king size bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, a second king size room and a twin which can also be made up with a super-king size bed.
Outside, you’ll find gardens on either side of the house with a large patio perfect for lazy afternoons in the sunshine. You’ll find outdoor furniture, a BBQ and a six-seater hot tub in a secluded spot at the rear of the house.
After you’ve explored the estate itself with its woodland and walking routes along the banks of the lake, there’s plenty more to discover in Norfolk’s countryside. Head south to the Norfolk Broads National Park, home to more than a quarter of the country’s rarest plants and birds. You can stroll along the country trails or explore the waterways by boat. Worstead Estate is also located close to Norfolk’s spectacular coastline, with huge beaches such as Winterton-on-Sea nearby. Head in the other direction and you’ll find yourself in the bustling city of Norwich, wandering through its medieval streets.
