Within walking distance of the historic market town of Framlingham, The Silos sit on the edge of an old Suffolk farm. Originally two grain silos, they’ve been repurposed by an award winning visual artist to create a luxurious cottage, perfect for couples. The two silos are connected by a short corridor with one domed room containing the living and kitchen space while the other houses a cosy bedroom and bathroom. Enjoy long walks in the Suffolk countryside, exploring pretty towns and villages along the way, before putting your feet up in front of the wood burner back at The Silos and enjoying the peace and quiet.
You’ll find the entrance door in the hallway that connects the two silos with room to hang coats after a walk in the countryside. To the right is the cosy ‘Living Silo’. The large domed room feels bright and spacious with large windows and an oculus in the centre of the domed ceiling. There’s a comfy sofa and armchair set in front of a log burner, a smart TV tucked out of sight until you need it and a bespoke gallery-style kitchen. Repurposed corrugated iron has been used as a heat shield behind the log burner and as a kitchen splash-back, matching the exterior of the silos. You’ll also find a carefully curated selection of original artwork throughout the home by artists including The Silos’ designer, John Christie, as well as Sonia Delauney, Eduardo Paolozzi and William Kentridge.
At the other end of the hallway is the ‘Sleeping Silo’. One of the walls has been painted a deep, calming blue, creating a relaxing atmosphere while the carved headboard and painted chest of drawers add plenty of character. There’s a super-king size bed and you’ll find mosaic-printed floor tiles and a walk-in power shower in the ensuite.
Outside, you’re free to use the land immediately surrounding The Silos for BBQs in the sunshine or enjoying a coffee in the morning at the outdoor table. There’s a covered car parking space and a utility room that features a washing machine and a large sink, perfect for storing bikes and muddy boots.
There’s plenty of exploring to do in the area, from long walks in Suffolk’s countryside to discovering medieval castles in Framlingham and Orford. The Snape Marshes are nearby with a diverse offering of flora and fauna and the bustling seaside town of Aldeburgh is just half an hour away in the car. Here you can relax at the beach, stroll through the pretty streets and visit Maggie Hamlin’s famous Scallop sculpture.
