The Details

This charming cabin started life as a transport cabin used to ferry goods around the UK’s rail network. It has now been reimagined as a romantic glamping retreat, offering couples a wonderful base in the Peak District National Park with breathtaking views of Monsal Head, Mam Tor and Kinder Scout. Originally built in the 1930s, the cosy Goods Wagon is now ideal for couples looking for a peaceful retreat, with a lovely spot on a tranquil farm in the Derbyshire countryside.

When you step inside, the wagon is comfy and cosy with big double glass doors that let in plenty of natural light and allow you to take in the view in style. There’s also a warming wood-burner here, so you can throw some logs on the flames and stay toasty and warm whatever the weather outside, and plenty of vintage railway memorabilia that adds character to your stay

When tummies rumble, the wagon has a quaint kitchenette that’s rather nicely equipped with everything you’ll need to prepare some delicious romantic meals during your stay. There’s a full-sized oven, fridge and even a dishwasher so no one is lumbered with the washing up. There’s also a delightful dining table inside, should you wish to enjoy meals in the warmth of the cabin.

After dinner, head outside and relax in your peaceful alfresco hangout spot, where you’ll find some outdoor seating and a firepit. Light the fire and stay warm as the sun sets over the Peak District and the stars come out above. There’s also a BBQ here, should you wish to try your hands at some outdoor grilling.

Back inside, the wagon’s cosy double bed ensures you are able to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep and wake feeling refreshed and ready to seize the day. You also have a superb, modern ensuite shower room with a spacious shower and a quirky washstand.

When it comes to filling your day, there’s so much to see and do nearby. Visit Chatsworth Estate, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, or explore Haddon Hall, a stunning Tudor manor near Bakewell. Walk or cycle the scenic Monsal Trail or explore the historic Magpie Mine.

The town of Bakewell offers charming streets, riverside walks and its famous pudding, whilst the Buxton Spa Town features thermal baths, gardens and an opera house. In Matlock Bath, take a cable car to the Heights of Abraham and finally, enjoy Castleton’s quaint beauty and explore its Blue John Cavern and nearby Mam Tor.
