Stanage Barn was 10 years in the making and is as impressive as it is beautiful. Crafted by hand, with a unique open plan interior, it has been designed to create a space of peace and seclusion that mirrors its surroundings. It would be a wonderful retreat for a couple or a solo traveller with a dog seeking refuge from the loud and busy world.

When you arrive at this gloriously isolated escape you'll park at the farm and be escorted with your luggage up to the barn in an off road buggy. If you've made an online grocery shop the hosts will have packed everything away for you and you'll be left in glorious peace and quiet, surrounded by ancient wild woods and stunning countryside. Head in to the barn, fix yourself a welcome drink and take in your lovely surroundings.

You'll discover a seamless blend of original traditional barn features overlaid with a modern Scandinavian aesthetic that creates a calming environment perfect for unwinding and recharging.

The barn is open plan with lots of glass, wood and sustainable materials that create a flow to the space. Immersed in the natural surroundings with glorious views from every window and only the wildlife for neighbours, you'll be perfectly placed to reconnect with nature.

The main living area is suffused with light and the double height ceilings create an airy home decorated in soothing neutral tones and high quality natural materials. The open plan kitchen is unique and funky with a huge American fridge, oven, stove, microwave and everything you could possibly need to create wonderful meals which you can enjoy at the large central island or at the cosy dining table for two.

The living area is cosy and welcoming with a blue leather sofa and mustard leather armchair adding to the cool modern vibe. There's some beautifully curated art on the walls, a TV for movie nights and a large desk where you can finally finish that novel you've been working on in utter peace. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows remind you where you are and give you a lovely backdrop as you sit with a glass of wine or a cup of tea gathering your thoughts. Curl up with a good book or just contemplate your navel and enjoy a snooze. On warm days you might like to make use of the BBQ out in the private courtyard as you take in the scenery and wait for the sun to set.

When it's time for bed, head up the wood and glass staircase and sink into your sumptuous king size Hypnos bed beneath the exposed beams and enjoy a peaceful night's sleep. In the morning you'll be delighted by the elegant ensuite facilities. Enjoy a refreshing shower or lounge about in the freestanding bathtub overlooking the expanse of the barn. There's no hurry. When you're ready to start your day you can enjoy a coffee in the courtyard or head through to the beautiful connecting glass conservatory, ideal for chilly days and delightful when it rains all around you.

There are plenty of wonderful country walks directly from your doorstep and if you're bringing your dog they will be over to moon! You'll be about 500 yards from the nearest driveable road and Hathersage is about a 30-minute walk away if you fancy a pint or want to do some light shopping and explore. You'll hopefully have had everything you need delivered before arrival to save you carrying shopping from the car or the nearest town. But if you do forget or run out of wine or beer there is a handy Stanage Barn wine and drinks list for you to purchase top ups from.

For days out you have over 1,000 acres of parkland to explore so strap on your boots! If you enjoy a country estate Chatsworth House is only 11 miles away and well worth a visit. The dams and reservoirs of Derwent Valley are 10 miles away and provides a wonderful spot to try out some paddle boarding.

We have just returned from Stanage Barn, which is undoubtedly the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. The location is spectacular- beautiful views, incredibly peaceful and completely private. The owners are absolutely delightful people. They could not be more helpful or hospitable, without being remotely intrusive. Nothing is too much trouble, they even offered to receive a food delivery before we arrived and unpack it for us. The barn itself is immaculately presented. It has been beautifully designed and furnished, with the greatest attention to detail we have ever seen in any holiday cottage we have stayed in. There is not a single thing that the owners haven’t thought of to provide, or a single design feature that hasn’t been considered. This barn is well worth every penny- the perfect place to get away from it all for the weekend. We shall be returning here, without question. We can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you to Lynne, Sophie, James and Tim for such a wonderful stay. We shall look forward to staying at your beautiful barn again.
