This gorgeous barn conversion is the perfect couple's retreat, providing fantastic access to the picturesque Peak District National Park
Sitting towards the south of England's picturesque Peak District, in the pretty hamlet of Alstonefield, is Redstart Cottage. A recent conversion of an early-modern period barn, this property provides guests with a relaxing country getaway in a magic location. Adjacent views of the local dales are sure to wow guests, and the surrounding countryside offers a number walking and cycling trails. This "upside-down" cottage sleeps two and allows guests to lose themselves in this charming rustic retreat.
The owners have put tremendous love and care into the design and refurbishment of Redstart, with the highest décor standards found throughout. Although boasting a contemporary and Scandinavian inspired interior, period features - such as the exposed timber beams and vaunted ceilings - help to retain its historic character, along with the original exterior.
An upside-down house, the ground floor contains the entrance hall and the large bedroom - complete with a comfy double-bed bedecked in the finest linens. Upstairs, there is the open-planned living space which has gorgeous views of the Alsop Dale. The kitchen comes fully equipped with all necessary mod-cons, and the living area has a plush couch which looks over the Dale. There is also a small dining table for one. The cottage also benefits from a huge lawn, shared with the two neighbouring cottages, providing outdoor seating from which to enjoy the wondrous views.
The Peak District is the first of the UK's national parks, known for its many stunning moors, valleys and gorges. The area is a favourite of nature lovers, and offers countless walking and cycling trails. The region is dotted with numerous country houses which are open to the public including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, and Calke Abbey. There are also several fine eateries, such as The Devonshire Arms in Hartington, Callow Hall in Ashbourne, and the award-winning George Inn in Alstonefield, just a stone's throw from your door. If you would like a touch of urban life, then Sheffield is an hour's drive north-east. Manchester - one of the UK's largest cities known for its arts, cuisine, shopping, and nightlife - lies less have one and a half hours to the north-west.
