The Deer Den is a beautiful, wood-clad holiday home situated on an award-winning farm in East Devon. The property is surrounded by open countryside and is a wonderful place to relax and reconnect with nature, your neighbours being the farm’s dairy cows and chickens (who lay fresh eggs ready for breakfast!). Complete with a woodfired hot tub in the private garden, it is the perfect accommodation for celebrating a special occasion in style with family or friends.
The newly built house is tucked away up a long private access driveway on the 260-acre farm. It has been expertly designed, well furnished and kitted out with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay, including underfloor heating to keep it warm and cosy all year round.
At the heart of the home is the open plan living, kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is fully fitted with modern appliances, including a state-of-the-art induction range stove. A 9ft solid wood dining table awaits when dinner is served, with seating for the whole group. There’s plenty of space to socialise and relax in the living room, where you can catch up on the latest series or play a board game together if you want a digital break.
The Deer Den features four spacious bedrooms, including one master with an ensuite bathroom. All bedrooms have lovely views and luxuriously comfortable super king beds (which can be set up as two twins on request) with high quality 400-thread Egyptian cotton bedding and thick pillows. There is also a shared family bathroom and shower room, with fluffy towels provided.
Outside is the quarter acre fenced garden and large decking area. Here you’ll find a picnic table, an alfresco shower and the hot tub, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the fresh air. A winding path runs through the garden to the fire pit with swinging grill - ideal for sizzling up a delicious meal - and further on to the chicken coop where you can feed the hens. The farm and nearby wood are teeming with wildlife; deer, rabbits, foxes, kites and buzzards are regularly spotted.
Guests are welcome to message the owners to help feed the calves during their stay, visit the dairy herd and see first hand how milk is produced, and to visit the honeybees and find out about these fascinating insects.
There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. A scenic walk across the farm will take you to the two local villages Clyst Hydon and Plymtree, which are home to some fantastic pubs and restaurants. Ashclyst Forest is a ten-minute drive away and has lots of great walks and cycle paths, or if you fancy a trip to the seaside, there is a selection of glorious beaches within a 40-minute drive, including Lyme Regis and Exmouth Beach. And finally, the vibrant city of Exeter is around a 30-minute drive away and has an excellent selection of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as activities for all ages.

Leave a reviewI booked The Deer Den as a surprise getaway for my boyfriend's 30th birthday with 3 other couples and it was perfect! The Den is gorgeous and the perfect venue for socialising with a fantastic open plan kitchen/diner. The lounge is lovely and cosy but can only really fit 4 in comfortably. It's very private so we were never worried about making too much noise. It was immaculate on arrival, and well equipped. Beds were incredibly comfy! Some gorgeous walks around and we came across a lovely country pub called The Blacksmiths. Louise was incredibly thoughtful, leaving a card and a bottle of wine on the table for our arrival. Her communication was faultless and she even delivered some logs to the door when we ran out. The chickens in the garden was a really special touch. Would love to stay again and will be recommending to other friends and family. Thank you Louise!
