Hidden down a quiet and leafy Devon lane you'll find this handsome Edwardian home. With stylish interiors, five bedrooms, a suntrap terrace and south-facing tiered gardens leading right down to the banks of the Lym, it's a perfect hideaway for family and friends, just a short hop from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast.
Located in the sleepy village of Uplyme, a little inland from Lyme Regis, Pitt White House is both grand but relaxed. The exterior is fine and imposing, with half tile hung walls and large windows taking in the views of woods and river. It's tucked away down a no-through road, giving a wonderful sense of peace and seclusion.
Inside the property has been beautifully renovated and styled. The entrance hall leads onto generous downstairs living space, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out and relax. There's a sitting room for evenings spent lounging on the chaise longue and watching films on the supersize TV as the fireplace flickers away. You can also head to the snug where you can get cosy on chilly nights or the reading room where you can kick back with your favourite book.
The fabulous kitchen is fitted with smart, Shaker style wooden cupboards, well stocked with all the equipment you need to fix a delicious dinner for up to ten. The four oven Aga is the heart of the house, and keeps things beautifully warm even on frosty mornings. When dinner's ready, eat in the elegant dining room where you can set the table and enjoy social dinners that stretch into the night.
On warm evenings head out into the garden and fire up the BBQ, or everyone can have a go making themselves a pizza to cook al fresco in the Ooni pizza oven, while enjoying a glass of something chilled. You can eat one of the two the terraces with tables and seating, or sit in the loggia which faces out over the gardens towards the river. The landscaped gardens are gorgeous and bordered by your own private stretch of the little River Lym, as it flows down to the sea at Lyme.
When the day is done you'll find five bedrooms upstairs ready for a restful night's sleep. There are three super king rooms, each with an en suite; plus two double rooms, sharing the grand family bathroom. All are impeccably styled and fitted with luxurious bedlinen, with soft towels and organic toiletries in each of the bathrooms.
Situated on the Devon and Dorset border, there's plenty to see and do. The house's superb location means you can walk into Lyme Regis in under 20 minutes by following the River Lym on its gentle path through fields and woodland.
In Lyme you can stroll the famous Cobb, hunt for fossils, sample some locally produced ice cream (watch out for the seagulls) and treat yourselves to a long lunch at one of the town's excellent restaurants. The food is a real treat in this area. Head up the coast to find with beach shacks selling fresh crab, or to River Cottage HQ a few miles north towards Axminster. Work up an appetite first with a walk along the iconic coastal path, which leads you over beaches, along clifftops and through wild woodland.
