This beautiful building was once used by local craftsman William Braund and his team to repair sails. The workshop fell into disrepair before the current owners transformed the space with the help of award-winning architects. The sympathetic restoration highlights the original features of the building, such as the stonework and the wooden beams, while adding in some contemporary elements that create a real sense of luxury.
Inside, you’ll find the building has been furnished in a contemporary, minimalist style which shows off the original building. The living spaces are open-plan, creating a laid-back feel and are fronted by big sliding glass doors which open out onto the courtyard. There’s a big kitchen next to the living area with deep, comfy sofas and a wood-burning stove. Perfect for relaxing evenings in front of a film or some downtime with a good book. The dining table is positioned in a light-filled spot right in front of the big windows, a great place to start the day with a delicious breakfast.
There are five bedrooms in total, sleeping up to 10 guests. The master bedroom features a super king bed and the other four are just as luxurious with the choice of super-kings or twins. All are equipped with extra deep mattresses and crisp, white bedding and smart TVs. The bedrooms share three bathrooms which have large walk-in showers and you’ll also find a beautiful cast iron bathtub where you can relax after a long walk along the coast or an activity-filled day at the beach.
Step outside into the pretty courtyard and you’ll find more dining space for barbecues on sunny days. There’s also a handy wetsuit drying area for those who’ve braved a dip in the sea and a garage for boards and bikes. In the evenings, gather around the fire pit, toast some marshmallows and enjoy a hot chocolate or an after-dinner drink as the sun sets.
The house is located in the heart of the village of Braunton, close to the north coast of Devon and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wander through the village, stopping off at shops and cafes along the way or stroll into town to one of the restaurants for dinner. A short drive will get you to the vast, sweeping sandy beaches of Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay. A bit further along the coast, you’ll find Woolacombe, Putsborough and Lee Bay. There are shipwrecks to discover and coastal paths to explore, before heading back to Braunds Sail Loft for a relaxed dinner and a glass of something by the fire pit.

Leave a reviewfabulous, beautifully designed and kitted out family home, which provided everything you could possibly need for a chilled out break. The quality of fixtures and fittings was exceptional, and the surrounding area and beaches were well worth checking out. Also wonderfully cosy underfloor heating and a laid back atmosphere. Unfortunately the weather was not conducive to spending time outside in the evenings in the beautiful enclosed patio garden; maybe a summer visit next time?! Emma was so helpful and knowledgeable regarding any queries; such a pleasure. Stayed 27-30 October 2023

Such a lovely peaceful place, very quiet despite being in the centre of town. Very comfortable beds, we all slept very well. Weather didn't oblige to use the lovely courtyard space but I imagine that would be wonderful in good weather. Lovely, helpful hosts.

What beautiful accommodation! Having the open plan living, eating and cooking area meant that everyone could be together all the time. However, having the additional space outside gave extra space and a fabulous eating area for those bbq breakfasts or other meals! The fire pit was a real hit, thank you. We had lots of suggestions from the very helpful owners who were on hand at the end of the phone if ever you needed them. We managed to visit Saunton Sands, where we hired a beach hut for the day. This was good value as it included chairs, windbreaks and a couple of body boards. Lee Bay is definitely worth a visit and Putsborough Beach with the little cafe at the top was gorgeous. The accommodation is a great base for all of these places, none being further than 15 mins in the car. We were blessed with beautiful Easter weather so were able to easily dry wet suits etc but even without the sun we would have had a blast. Can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you Emma and family for letting us share :)

All bedrooms are a good size and beds are so comfy!! I never sleep well away from home but I did here! Outside patio is lovely in the evening!! Great host, so helpful and knowledgeable about the local area and where to go. Would love to come back!!!
