Stylish and cosy barn conversion amidst spectacular gardens in rural Northumberland, perfect for romantic escapes.
Tucked away in a quiet spot in the Coquet Valley in Northumberland, Grey Hens is a relaxing retreat for two. It’s a stylish barn conversion, designed by local artist Marie Stansby, and surrounded by beautiful gardens bursting with colour. In the summer months, open up the large sliding doors that stretch the width of the property and enjoy an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, making the most of the romantic gardens. In the winter, snuggle up in front of the wood burning stove after a long soak in the roll-top bath and enjoy the peace and quiet.
The main living area is bright and spacious with high ceilings and natural light flooding in through the glass frontage. The exposed wooden beams, natural materials used in the furnishings and the green kitchen cabinets mirror the glimpses of the garden you can see through the windows. The lounge area is set right in front of the big glass patio doors, helping you feel connected with the outdoors. In the evenings, relax on the sofa with a glass of wine while the wood burner crackles away.
The open plan living space extends into a large dining and kitchen area with everything you’ll need to whip up a feast. If you’re not in the mood to make anything from scratch, you’ll find some homemade ready-to-cook meals in the freezer with an honesty box. On sunny days, eat outside in your private patio space where you’ll find a table, chairs and an umbrella.
The large bedroom is tucked away at the back of the property, with a luxurious king size bed and an armchair providing a cosy reading nook. The ensuite bathroom has a large shower and a beautiful roll-top bath. You’ll find bathrobes, fluffy towels and White Company toiletries waiting for you.
You’re free to explore the beautifully maintained gardens just beyond your private patio. They’re separated into ‘rooms’, each with its own character and creating a sense of privacy. Venture a bit further into the surrounding countryside and you’ll find plenty of footpaths to follow as you explore the Coquet Valley. The traditional market town of Rothbury is less than 10 minutes away with plenty of fantastic restaurants and shops. For a change of scene, the coast is just 25 minutes away where you can spend a day at the beach or enjoy long coastal walks between quaint fishing villages.
