If you’re after a classic English getaway for the whole family, look no further than this delightful cottage in the Wiltshire countryside. This three-bed thatched cottage comes with a separate smaller one-bedroom house to give you options when it comes to deciding who sleeps where. There’s enough space to accommodate up to eight adults and three children, with three king sized beds, a twin room and two impressive sofa beds spread across the site.
Much of the rural charm comes from the riverside cottage garden. Imagine greeting the morning by throwing open the French doors from the breakfast room and stepping out onto the terrace to hear the sound of the water running by.
You could spend most of your stay out here if you wanted, challenging the kids to games of table tennis or enjoying a turn on the tree swing. Later on, you could chow down using the BBQ — with coal provided from April to October.
Inside, an impressive kitchen comes fully equipped with an aga and oven for whipping up family meals. Afterwards, make use of the dishwasher so that you can focus on having a good time rather than cleaning.
If you want to have a cosy time indoors, the living room features a wood-burning stove, with two nights’ worth of logs supplied for guests between November and March. There are plenty of board games and puzzles available, or you can retreat to the snug to watch a film on the 65” flatscreen HDTV.
For anyone who’s unable to get out of work mode, a study is available and, perhaps most importantly, a barista coffee machine.
There are plenty of provisions for folks with young families. Books and toys are here for kids of all ages, as well as a travel cot, high chair and baby safety gates. And if your children are of the furry variety, you’ll be happy to know that two well-behaved dogs are allowed to stay too!
As befitting a rural getaway, you’re best getting to the cottage by car. Thankfully there are spaces for three vehicles next to the property. Cars will also give you access to lots of historic attractions; Stonehenge, Salisbury, Longleat and Wardour Castle are all less than an hour's drive away. And for younger souls less interested in history, you’ve got Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World!
Closer to home are a local farm shop in Berwick St. James and the Bell Inn, a tremendous place for a classic pub meal. Both can be found within 20 minutes of walking from the cottage.
