This uniquely restored farmhouse was renovated by architect Luis Laplace to create a fusion between the original 18th century features and a lively, avant-garde contemporary style.
Guests are spoilt for choice with the range of quirky bedrooms, all luxuriously featuring comfortable double beds and ensuite bathrooms often including roll-top baths and overhead showers. The carved wooden bed frame in the master bedroom and the brass bedframe in the brass bedroom enhance the ornate, characterful nature of these rooms. The feature fireplace and graffiti wall in the graffiti bedroom, vintage floral wallpaper in the Pipilotti Rist bedroom as well as the blue colour scheme in the Paul McCarthy bedroom are all vibrant, jazzy options. You might spend lazy mornings idling with breakfast in bed in Niki and Jackie’s bedroom nestled in the eaves with light flooding in through the large windows.
Celebrate a special occasion with a dinner party in the dining room at the table seating 12 where you can admire Guillermo Kuitca’s dramatic floor-to-ceiling 360 degree mural. You can even book a catering team who will create a delightful menu and serve you a delicious banquet alongside appetizing cocktails. For a more casual affair, take inspiration from a cookbook and rustle up a meal using the Smeg range cooker and Smeg fridge freezer to be enjoyed gathered around on the rustic kitchen table and benches. Fancy an alfresco meal under the stars? Fortunately, the green egg BBQ in the private courtyard and garden is ideal for picturesque outdoor dining with a tipple in vintage glassware.
The exposed plaster walls and eye-catching wallpaper throughout the living spaces accentuates the artsy distinctiveness of the interior. Indeed, the stuffed badger and Pipilotti Rist’s installation - projecting images of the Somerset countryside through a chandelier of found objects - in the sitting room embody the eccentric style of the farmhouse. The study is a lovely location for staying toasty on frosty evenings by lighting up one of the property’s two log burning stoves with the complimentary logs whilst you kick back and catch up on an unmissable series with the Apple TV or unleash your competitive spirit with board or card games.
The Farm Shop onsite is a fantastic opportunity to purchase local culinary produce, such as excellent homemade sandwiches from the deli or farm meat from the award-winning butchery.
Local Bruton is a charming day out, boasting the must-visit Hauser & Wirth art gallery and landscaped garden with its bean-shaped pavilion. Godminster Shop is worth a visit for their award-winning cheese and spirits made onsite – perhaps grab gifts for loved ones! Magical evenings out are on offer with Matt’s Kitchen providing a highly acclaimed seasonal set menu and At the Chapel possessing a downstairs clubroom where you can let loose with DJ nights and happy hour cocktails.
Mendip National Landscape Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty certainly deserves a trip to find tranquillity in the breathtaking rolling hills of Somerset. In addition, the Leland Trail is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the historic landscape of Somerset by following in the tracks of John Leland’s 16th century review of churches and priories.
