A luxurious Estate Cottage in the peaceful Somerset countryside, beautifully designed and decorated, complete with an outdoor, wood-fired hot tub.
A wonderful rural escape for families or friends, Apple Loft sits in an ancient orchard and overlooks the rolling hills and woods of the picturesque Dillington Park. The cottage has been extended and renovated to a very high standard, sleeping up to 13 guests in six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Despite the recent work, the cottage maintains its rustic charm and historic features, such as the exposed brick and hamstone, oak beams and traditional fireplace.
The highlight of the house is the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area which opens out onto the south-facing terrace and orchard. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances, and a large dining table awaits when it’s time for dinner to be served. The cosy living area has three oversized sofas that sit around a log burning stove and 55inch smart TV, the perfect place for everyone to relax after a long day exploring the local area. Step through the bi-folding doors onto the terrace and garden, which has an outdoor table and chairs for al fresco dining and a fire pit to warm up by in the evenings. It’s also where you can enjoy an indulgent soak in the wood-fired hot tub and take in the gorgeous views of Dillington Park.
The bedrooms are all equally luxurious, fitted with comfortable deep mattresses, fluffy mattress toppers and super-soft cotton bedding. All the bedrooms bar one, the triple bunk room, have ensuite bathrooms and can be set up as twins or super-king doubles. The bunk room has a bunk bed and pull-out mattress, ideal for children.
Apple Loft is situated in the heart of the countryside, with a wide variety of walks right on the doorstep, including a popular footpath directly outside the property. There are several pubs within walking distance, where you can grab a bite to eat and sample their unique selections of local ciders. The Green House farm shop is a few minutes’ walk away, perfect for stocking up on local produce to cook up back at the house. There are more places to eat and drink at Dinnington Docks, a short drive from the cottage.
Recommended activities include visiting the orchards and presses of the many local cider producers, such as Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake – or Temperley’s cider brandy distillery in Burrow Hill if you prefer a slightly stronger tipple. Dillington House and Barrington House, two magnificent National Trust properties with gardens open to the public are just a short drive away. The beach at Lyme Regis is a 40-minute drive, famous for its sheltered stretch of sand and walks along the Jurassic coastline.
