Exmouth is a lively seaside resort in East Devon that marks the start of the UNESCO Jurassic Coast and is just 20 minutes from the historic city of Exeter. Situated where the River Exe meets the sea, Exmouth is home to a beautiful sandy beach that stretches from the quaint marina up to the red cliffs that offer scenic walks along the coast to Budleigh Salterton.
The seafront promenade is a popular spot for tourists, with a variety of cafes, ice cream parlours, restaurants, pubs and shops overlooking the sea. And if you want to get out onto the water, Exmouth is one of the UK's top kitesurfing destinations. You can also try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, as well as wild-swimming in the chilly sea. Just be wary of the strong currents caused by the huge River Exe pouring out into the English Channel.
Heading inland, the town is home to some quaint cafes, charming pubs, and a handful of nice eateries too. And there's even a nightclub in the centre, should you wish to enjoy a big night out! Exmouth is also nicely connected to Exeter via train, which can take you all the way to Paignton if you want to head further west. There's even a scenic cycle path that winds its way along the banks of the river all the way up to Exeter, offering a peaceful way to visit the city. Be sure to stop off for a drink in Lymptson or Topsham along the way, which are both home to a number of adorable pubs.
