You’ll find Acorn Cottage tucked away in the heart of the charming village of Southleigh in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Built in 1868, the building was once the milking parlour of a larger agricultural barn. It has now been transformed into a relaxing retreat for two with plenty of contemporary luxuries and a private garden where you can while away a sunny afternoon. Spend your days exploring Devon’s rolling countryside or taking in the rugged beauty of the Jurassic Coast. Stop off at one of the great local pubs serving up fresh local produce for a hearty lunch or dinner before returning to the cottage to put your feet up.
Step inside the cottage and move through the hallway which has some handy storage space for shoes and coats and you’ll find yourself in a spacious living and dining area. Plenty of natural light filters in through the doors that lead out into the garden and the big comfy sofa and armchair invite you to make yourselves at home. Off to the side, you’ll find a separate kitchen, fully equipped with Neff appliances, a cupboard fully stocked with herbs and spices and there will be a welcome pack of locally sourced treats to get you started.
Move through to the bedroom which features a luxurious king size bed complete with Egyptian cotton linen and Hungarian goose down duvet and pillows, promising a great night’s sleep. A door leads straight out onto the garden so you head out for a cup of coffee first thing or simply enjoy the sounds of the countryside from the comfort of your bed. The ensuite marble bathroom has a large walk-in shower with fluffy towels waiting on the heated towel rail and underfloor heating.
Southleigh is a pretty village, ideally located for exploring the countryside and south coast of Devon. Wander past thatched cottages and the beautiful 14th century church and straight out into the rolling hills on foot or by bike and soak up the scenery. Head down to the spectacular Jurassic Coast for long walks along the clifftops or fossil hunting down on the beaches. Explore historic coastal towns like Sidmouth and Lyme Regis and enjoy freshly caught fish at restaurants and pubs right by the sea.

Leave a reviewAcorn Cottage is a lovely property set in a beautiful part of the East Devon countryside. Our 4 night stay began with a warm welcome from owner Ants who could not do enough to make sure that our stay was thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable. The cottage itself is beautifully maintained and very well equipped and one immediately feels comfortable and settled within it. It is spotlessly clean and tidy! There is a very generous hamper containing all the basics plus snacks and Ants also left us a beautifully baked cake. The kitchen is the best equipped that we have ever come across. The cottage is situated perfectly for exploring the Devon and Dorset coastal areas and surrounding towns and villages and if you do not feel like going out it is very conducive to relaxing with a book in the lovely courtyard garden or inside in the comfortable sitting room. We will definitely go back availability permitting.
