Hidden away amongst the beautiful landscapes of the Blackdown Hills on the border between Somerset and Devon, this charming shepherd’s hut offers a peaceful escape well away from the hustle and bustle.
Wake up to the sounds of the birds in the surrounding woodland and soak up the views as you sip a cup of coffee. Go for long walks exploring the rolling hills, discovering pretty villages along the way. Return to your cosy hut for a relaxing dip in the hot tub and stay out late into the evening, stargazing in spectacular skies free of light pollution.
This handcrafted shepherd’s hut is set in its own bit of woodland overlooking a natural pond. You might be lucky enough to spot the deer stopping off for a drink or the colourful flash of kingfishers swooping above the water. The deck surrounding the hut is the perfect spot to sit and watch the wildlife as you enjoy your meals outdoors or a soak in the hot tub. In the summer, the hot tub doubles as a plunge pool, offering a refreshing way to start the day.
Step inside the hut and you’ll find a surprisingly spacious interior, complete with an ensuite shower room and a kitchenette. Wake up in your sumptuous king size bed and rustle up some coffee and breakfast to enjoy at the table or to take out onto the deck. You’ll find bathrobes, slippers and fluffy towels waiting for you, along with some extra towels for the hot tub.
In the summer, open up the doors and let in some of that fresh countryside air while you enjoy the view. In the winter, you’ll be able to get a fire going in the woodburner, turning the hut into a cosy retreat.
There’s plenty of exploring to do in the area and you’ll find yourselves spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor activities. Go for a gentle stroll to the Otterford Lakes, following the trail that runs near the hut or venture a little further into the Blackdown Hills for some more challenging rambles and stunning views.
If you fancy a day at the coast, head towards Lyme Bay and go for spectacular walks along the cliffs or relax on the beach. For a bit of culture, the bustling city of Exeter is nearby and has a magnificent cathedral as well as a vibrant array of independent shops, cosy cafes and restaurants.
