This delightful boutique hotel is chock full of rustic charm and is tucked away in the old medieval walls of historic Southampton. It would be a great choice for business trips and couples who love food, shopping and a bustling city life.
THE PIG is a higgledy-piggledy building with 12 gorgeous rooms that range from snug to spacious. All of the rooms are beautifully decorated in classic PIG style with big comfy beds, lush fabrics and ensuite facilities that include either a monsoon shower or a free-standing roll-top bathtub within which to soak away your cares. Every room comes with a fully stocked larder of vintage, locally sourced snacks that you can purchase if you're peckish after a night on the town.
Once you've settled into your room you can head down to the relaxed deli and bar where you'll find rustic wooden tables, low cosy sofas and a roaring log burner. The dining is casual and delicious, and the menu changes every day so settle in with a local beer, wine or inventive cocktail and peruse the ever changing menu. There's a pie of the day, delicious freshly made quiches and if you just fancy a little nibble order a selection of 'Piggy Bits'.
If you're just stopping over for business you might prefer to stay in and relax in the lounge with a drink before settling in for a chilled night in your room. But if you have a little longer and want to explore there's plenty to see and do in this major port. Head to Westquay for a day of outlet shopping or make your way over to Ocean Village where you'll find a huge array of restaurants, bars and the multiplex cinema.
If you fancy going a little further afield you can hop on the Red Funnel Ferry to the Isle of Wight, a lovely place to walk and cycle and home to the famous Hut seafood restaurant (booking necessary!) where you can enjoy a feast by the sea before heading back to THE PIG. For fine dining locally whilst gazing at super yachts, Blue Jasmine is highly recommended, and if you're looking for something a bit more low key La Regata, just around the corner, serves fantastic tapas. Afterwards head back to THE PIG for a last drink before sinking into your cosy bed and a peaceful night's rest.
