The west-facing Barracks is a delightful semi-detached stone building housed in the grounds of the hosts' business, the East Neuk Orchards. The living area is upstairs to make the most of the wonderful views. Spacious, tasteful and full of character, it would be a great getaway for a family of up to eight or a group of friends who enjoy nature walks, the seaside and great food.
All of the bedrooms are on the ground floor so you can drop off your luggage as soon as you arrive before heading up to the enormous dual-aspect kitchen diner. This light and airy space is beautifully decorated with a modern, fully equipped kitchen with a fantastic range cooker, SMEG fridge freezer and breakfast bar where you can crack open the welcome drinks. The large farmhouse kitchen table comfortably seats eight and is a fabulous place to settle in for a long celebratory dinner or a big bustling breakfast.
This floor is also home to two separate living rooms. The larger of the two has plush velvet sofas and an armchair facing a beautiful open fire where you can unwind together on chilly evenings, or get cosy and watch a film on the 32” Smart TV. You could also enjoy a singalong around the upright electric piano. Be sure to bring a musician along!
The second 'snug' is equally lovely and makes a great place to relax with a good book away from the group. You'll find the main living room offers wonderful views of the countryside all the way down to the sea, whilst the dining room and kitchen looks over towards the reservoir and Nature Reserve. There's a WC on this floor too which is quite marvellous with mahogany fittings and wonderful walls papered with comics to keep you entertained.
At bedtime you can head back down the stairs to the four beautifully presented bedrooms. The first room has a king size bed with its own ensuite with shower and doors leading out to the garden. The second is also a king size room with doors to the garden, and the remaining two are wonderfully cosy with one double bed and a twin, great for children or friends sharing.
For the three rooms without ensuite there's a family bathroom with shower over the bath that is properly built with a widened shower end and a glass screen. There's an additional shower room too, so no one need queue in the morning. You'll also find a cupboard under the stairs for boots and coats.
Enjoy your morning coffee out in the private lawned garden, as you make your plans for the day, or sit out in the west facing sun for an evening drink.
The East Neuk of Fife is a wonderful place to explore and you can start with the 10 acres of wooded grounds and orchards to wander around. Just over the road is Gillingshill Reservoir & Nature Reserve which is a fabulous place to walk the dog. Fife Coastal path offers 180 kilometres of cliffs, caves, beaches, fishing villages and pretty harbours to explore too.
A visit to Tentsmuir Beach and Forest comes highly recommended and you might like to stop off at the Rhynd Farm Cafe afterwards for some tea and delicious cake.
For a memorable fine dining experience be sure to book a table at The Peat Inn, an exceptional Michelin starred restaurant nearby. You may also wish to visit the Dory Restaurant in Pittenweem, which allows dogs during the day and offers fine dining in the evenings.
