Set overlooking the sea and within walking distance of Whitby Harbour, Misty Cottage is the perfect coastal escape for big family trips or group getaways. This pretty cottage, a stone’s throw from the sea, comfortably sleeps 10 in four king size rooms and a twin. Inside, the cottage has been beautifully furnished with a rustic, seaside theme throughout. Thoughtful details such as the beautiful exposed beams, mirrors reminiscent of port-holes and even rope curtain ties give the property a nautical feel.
On the ground floor, you’ll find the large dining and kitchen area with room for everyone around the table and kitted out with modern appliances. There’s a cloakroom where your beach things and walking gear can be stored after a day exploring Whitby or the North York Moors National Park. The first king size bedroom can also be found on this floor. All of the bedrooms have their own TV and DVD player so you can relax in your own space if you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet.
Head upstairs to find the cosy living room, with sofas gathered around the feature brickwork fireplace and views out to the sea. This is a warm and welcoming place to relax after a busy day out. There are also two bedrooms on this floor with luxurious king size beds and their own ensuite bathrooms. The final two bedrooms are on the second floor and share a family bathroom. These rooms have pitched ceilings, exposed wooden beams and sweeping sea views. There’s also some outdoor space where you can enjoy the sunshine and sea air while rustling up a feast on the BBQ.
Misty Cottage is a 15-minute walk from the town centre with shops, cafes and restaurants, and even a pub just across the road. There’s plenty to do in Whitby itself, from playing golf, to visiting the ruins of the 13th Century Abbey, to watching the sunset from the lighthouse. The cottage also makes a great base for exploring more of Yorkshire. There are Blue Flag beaches along the coast and just south of Whitby is the picturesque Robin Hood’s Bay. This old fishing village with winding streets and a sandy beach is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and well worth a visit. Or venture further inland and hit some of the walking or cycling trails in the North York Moors National Park with stunning scenery and pretty villages to discover.
