This gorgeous farmstead sits within the magnificent Lake District National Park and features a grand house and a beautiful barn that can be booked separately or together for a giant group getaway. Sitting on a pretty hill, above the nearby village of Bampton Grange in the idyllic Lowther Valley, you’re provided with delightful views in all directions.
Up first is Fieldgate House. This Grade II listed Georgian home is an opulent retreat that overlooks miles of rolling hills and offers a range of grand social spaces where you and your loved ones can spread out and unwind. Inside, you can enjoy hearty feasts in the giant dining room, which has room for all 16 of you on two dining tables. This is an amazing space for social meals that stretch long into the night.
When it comes to preparing dinner, the house has a spacious open plan kitchen and living room, with a gigantic three-metre kitchen island where you can settle with a drink in hand as your loved one tackles dinner. The kitchen is nicely equipped with everything you need to make preparing meals a breeze. After dinner, gather on the big comfy sofas and take in the view through the giant windows.
When night falls, Fieldgate House has eight bedrooms, sleeping up to 16 guests in comfort. The original Georgian house has three spacious first-floor bedrooms – a super-king, a king and a double – with large sash windows and original fireplaces, plus a smaller bunk room. A ground-floor double bedroom adds further charm with underfloor heating and natural light. The modern stone extension offers three stylish ensuite double bedrooms, one with a king size bed. Bathrooms include a first-floor family bath/shower room, an additional shower room and a ground-floor shower room in the extension.
Up next is Fieldgate Barn, a stunning 16th-17th century Cumbria stone barn, lovingly restored with traditional methods and transformed into a luxurious holiday retreat. Original features like exposed stone walls, oak kingpin posts in the full-height hall and a charming log burner blend seamlessly with modern touches such as underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. Outside, beautifully paved seating areas, manicured lawns and a feature pond provide the perfect backdrop for alfresco dining or BBQs.
The barn boasts seven ensuite bedrooms, cleverly divided into two interconnected parts. The first section offers two ensuite double bedrooms and its own open-plan sitting, kitchen and dining area, making it ideal for a self-contained group. The second section features five ensuite bedrooms, including a large family room (with a double bed and bunk beds), three double bedrooms (two on the ground floor) and one king size bedroom.
The heart of the barn is the spacious open-plan living area where everyone can come together. A large dining space is perfect for group meals, while the stylish, funky sofas around the log burner offer a cosy spot to relax after a day of exploring.
When it comes to filling your days, you’re ideally located to explore all that the Lake District has to offer. The local area offers a mix of pubs, food and attractions. The Greyhound is a quirky modernised pub, while The Crown Inn provides a friendly village atmosphere. The Shap Chippy, one of the country’s best, serves top-notch fish and chips. Visit the historic Lowther Castle with its scenic grounds and tearoom, or enjoy stunning views at Haweswater Reservoir. Stop by Abbott Lodge Ice Cream Farm for Jersey ice cream or explore Larch Cottage Nursery for gardens, plants, and a charming cafe.
