Set on a private island on the River Lune in Lancashire, Hermitage House is perfect for a celebratory get-together with friends and family. Built in 1842 for the Lord Mayor of Lancaster, this former gentlemen's residence is packed with character, grandeur and luxury. Comfortably sleeping up to 24 guests and with everything from a cinema to a hair salon, you'll have no trouble keeping everyone entertained. Relax with a little spa session in the sauna and hot tub, enjoy a peaceful morning's fishing down by the river or challenge the family to a round of poker in the games room.
Step inside Hermitage House and you'll find much of its original Victorian grandeur still on display. It's filled with high ceilings, elaborate chandeliers, traditional fireplaces and antique furniture. The grand entrance hall with its section of stained glass ceiling illuminating the impressive staircase is just a taste of what's to come. There are elegant bedrooms with pretty river views, huge reception rooms with wood-pannelled walls and a dining room fit for a banquet. This is all set alongside modern updates, such as the contemporary kitchen and stylish bathrooms, ensuring you'll have everything you need during your stay.
The modern updates to the house include some playful touches, such as the addition of a casino and a 22-seat cinema. Settle in for a cosy evening in front of a good movie or try your luck at the snooker table. You might prefer a session in the swim spa followed by a moment of peace and quiet in the hot tub or the sauna. You can also explore the beautifully landscaped gardens that surround the house, enjoying the sound of the river flowing past and the views out to Otter Island.
If you fancy heading out into the local area, there's plenty of exploring to do from days out at the beach to trips into Lancaster to visit the castle and maritime museum. Pack a picnic and go for a gentle stroll along the river or go for a more ambitious hike in the nearby Yorkshire Dales or Forest of Bowland. Morecambe's long stretch of sandy beach is just a short drive away, perfect for a day by the seaside with the family.
