Nineteenth-century mill lovingly converted into a holiday cottage near Whitby, perfect for family gatherings or group trips to the coast.
The beautiful Larpool Mill was built in the early 1800s as a flour mill. Set in three-quarters of an acre of land with a stream meandering through and surrounded by woodland, the mill has now been expertly restored and converted into holiday accommodation. It now features five luxurious ensuite bedrooms spread over three floors and an annexe. Located on the edge of Ruswarp and within a couple of miles of Whitby’s beaches and harbour, you can explore both the countryside and the coast of North Yorkshire.
Step inside and you’ll find warm and welcoming social spaces on the ground floor. The large kitchen features beautiful exposed wooden beams and all the equipment you could possibly need to cook up some delicious dinners. After a busy day exploring Whitby or the North York Moore, gather around the dining table in the evenings to relax, refuel and share stories of the day’s adventures. There’s also a cosy lounge with sofas and armchairs to sink into and a stove that burns wood and coal to keep you snug.
Head upstairs and you’ll find two of the ensuite bedrooms on the first floor. You’ll also find the beautiful snug on this floor with the beams that originally held the workings of the millstone still in place. This room can also be used as an additional bedroom with two single guest beds available to be put up. Upstairs once more and you’ll find two more ensuite bedrooms with the fifth located in the annexe outside. All of the bedrooms are beautifully made up with comfy beds and features such as exposed beams and brick walls adding to their unique character.
The charming gardens are secluded and there’s some furniture in case you want to take your meals outside on warmer days. You can stroll straight from the house into the surrounding countryside with footpaths taking you through Cock Mill Wood. Just a few miles down the road, Whitby is waiting to be explored with the beautiful abbey overlooking the harbour. There’s also a long stretch of sandy beach lined with pretty beach huts which is a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon. A little further down the coast, you’ll come across the picturesque fishing village, Robin Hood’s Bay. Explore the winding cobbled streets and hunt for ancient fossils down on the beach.

Leave a reviewWe had a brilliant stay at Larpool Mill last week, the house has been beautifully restored with unique and comfy furnishings throughout. There is so much space for a large extended family to stay (5 large double bedrooms), yet still have their own space and privacy with en-suites and an annexe bedroom. The house is equipped with everything you could need, from the kitchen to washer & dryer, to cook book collection. The grounds are large with a couple of places to eat outside, kids & dogs to run around on the lawn and BBQ plus space for 3/4 cars to park in the private drive. It's in a great location to discover the many lovely towns and villages along the North Yorkshire coastline, all within a short drive away. We'll be back for another stay again hopefully some time soon!
