Step back in time for a magical, romantic stay in this historic 18th century hideaway, originally a porter’s lodge for Penicuik House. Indoor luxury and outdoor natural beauty are the perfect combination for a tranquil retreat in this vast, idyllic estate.

Plan the day ahead sitting outside listening to beautiful birdsong as you sip your morning brew made on the Sage coffee machine. Next, lace up your boots for a hike around the 20km of walking trails on the Penicuik Estate, with over three thousand acres of ancient woodland, fields and rivers waiting to be explored. Beyond is the glorious landscape of the Pentland Hills.

When you're worn out from the day's activities, lounge in the cosy sitting room in front of the wood-fire stove and watch a movie, with a chilled glass of wine from the honesty wine fridge. A long soak in the steaming cedar hot tub is perfect for relaxing tired muscles.

In the mood for an alfresco dinner? The garden terrace is an ideal space to enjoy an intimate meal under the stars cooked up on the Big Green Egg BBQ before warming up in front of the outdoor fireplace.

The kitchen is also a magnificent place to prepare a date-night dinner with fantastic amenities such as Miele appliances and a Quooker boiling water tap. Dinner cooked by a private chef can also be arranged on request!

Restorative sleep after a busy day will come easy on the sumptuous Hypnos mattress in the super-king size bed. Wake up bathed in sunlight in the pretty bedroom before heading to the ensuite to wake yourself up in the walk-in overhead shower using the excellent VERDEN toiletries. You will remain lovely and cosy even with bare feet thanks to the underfloor heating.
