Wilderkin Cabin is nestled in a secluded glade surrounded by wild cherry and apple trees. It was featured in the Sunday Times top 25 glamping stays in the UK and would make a wonderful retreat for a couple or a solo adventurer seeking stunning Scottish countryside close to the busy city of Edinburgh.
This lovely larch clad hideaway will keep you warm and cosy during your off-grid adventure and the hosts have thought of everything to make the stay both peaceful and luxurious.
The pale wood gives the interior a Scandi vibe and you'll find a small well equipped kitchenette with an induction hob, a fridge and some basics like oil, tea and coffee to get you started. You might like to pick some apples from the surrounding trees and incorporate them in your cooking, you'd be very welcome.
A two seater table provides a space to enjoy dinner or play some cards with a bottle of wine and the large focal wood burner will keep you toasty and warm late into the night.
A large picture window as well as several small windows flood the space with light and provide a stunning view of the big, ever-changing skies and the gorse and heather covered slopes stretching all the way to the Pentland Hill range in the distance.
In the evening you can get cosy by the fire with blankets and soft sheepskins, make use of the record player whilst you play board games or read that book you've been meaning to get to. And when it's time for bed you'll find a wonderful king sized bed decked out in luxurious down bedding and crisp white sheets where you can sink into sleep with nothing but the sound of nature for company.
In the morning you can enjoy a long soak in the en suite rainfall shower and make use of the complimentary (and biodegradable) shampoo and soap before enjoying your first coffee out in the fresh air. Grab one of the handmade stools and head a little further up the bank where you can relax to the sound of fieldfares, larks and curlews as you make your plans for the day.
If you just want to decompress and spend your time at the cabin you can start by making use of the Japanese Ofuru inspired hot tub which will soak away any remaining cares. There are plenty of lovely walks to enjoy all the way to the beautiful Pentland Hill Range in one direction and through the atmospheric Deepskye forest to the rear of the cabin. Say hello to the neighbouring cows and horses and make a trip to the nearby farm where you can stock up locally sourced ingredients.
As the sun sets cook a feast out on the fire pit using the skillet and enjoy a drink as the stars come out above.
If you want to head into Edinburgh for the day it's a short thirty minute drive and you'll find plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes to keep you occupied. Do take the walk up Arthur's Seat, a wonderful way to see the city and not too taxing. For a cosy meal closer to the cabin the nearby conservation village of West Linton has open-fire pubs, a restaurant, tea room and food shops just five minutes down the road.
