Originally built in 1840, this historic property was recently converted from an antique showroom into a marvellous holiday home with an interior that offers a perfect blend of modern luxury and classic style. This really is a perfect getaway for friends holidaying together or a multi-generational family.
You'll enter through the large old school door into a fabulous open plan kitchen and dining area that is modern and fully equipped with AEG appliances. Have a welcome drink and wander around taking in the property. The hosts have provided some lovely nods to the building's antique past such as the 1809 Denbury crockery which will look timeless and elegant as you dine at the beautiful oak refectory table. Everywhere you look, old meets new in a charming eclectic mix.
The lounge area has a vaulted ceiling and chandelier beneath which you can lounge on the leather sofa and arm chair and make plans for the next day or curl up and enjoy a film on the 50-inch smart TV.
When it's time to sleep you'll walk across porcelain tiled floors up the double oak stairs, something of a feature, to the first two bedrooms, both of which are super-kings with ensuite bathrooms. The first room can be made into a twin if required and has a large French window with a Juliet balcony and electric blackout blinds for those who need complete darkness for sleep. Luxury Egyptian cotton bedding and feather and duck down duvets promise a comfy and cosy night, and in the morning you can languish in the spa bath or take a long hot shower in the separate quadrant rain shower.
Bedroom two has a classic style with a large floor-to-ceiling sash window. The bed, like the first room, is bedecked in crisp luxurious linens and the ensuite has a double Duravit sink and an extra-large rain shower beautifully finished with Italian tear drop tiles.
The third bedroom is on the ground floor and has been designed for those with mobility issues and is a fabulous mix of modern comfort and antique charm. The double bed has a modern headboard with LED reading lights and is very comfortable with bedside tables that can be moved if needed. The ensuite is an accessible wet room with an overhead shower, toilet and heated towel rails to keep your robe fluffy and warm.
The adjacent utility room has the Bosch washing machine and dryer with ironing board and iron so you needn't pack the kitchen sink.
You'll be in the heart of Ashburton with lots of fun activities on your doorstep. Pop into The Old Library for a good coffee and wander the streets. There's an Antiques Trail comprising 10 independent retailers, Ashburton Craft Mongers where you can buy some lovely local art and if you fancy a pint The Old Exeter Inn is Ashburton's oldest pub with a great ales, good food, a roaring fire and a pretty garden for alfresco dining in the summer. The nearest beach is Mothercombe which remains unchanged over the centuries. At low tide it comes into its own with fine sand and plenty of opportunity for shallow, sheltered bathing.
