Discretely nestled in the rolling Sussex countryside is the Tack Barn, a purpose-built sustainable holiday home nestled amid the private wood of the classy country house next door.
The Tack Barn has a spacious kitchen/living area that is flooded with light thanks to the many vast glass French windows that open straight onto a wraparound deck. In the kitchen you’ll find modern appliances and everything you need to take advantage of the amazing produce available nearby.
The living area features a log burner and comfy sofas where you can sit back and watch the day unfold over the kind of large pond you only ever find next to really nice houses.
The lone bedroom is full of small personal touches that make the biggest difference (for example, the Egyptian cotton sheets on the king size bed are line dried). Even more French windows open out onto the deck so you can even sit in bed and admire the view of that pond. The bathroom features a double-ended bath, towels are fluffy and organic, and they even supply candles if you need some extra help relaxing.
Outside there is a dining area next to the kitchen and a fire-pit for when the evenings take a chill. The woodland garden is perfect for a walk, and residents are welcome to stroll in the main garden and watch the sun set from the jetty.
If that all sounds too relaxing, you’ll be pleased to learn that you’re just a few miles from Lewes and its café’s, pubs and antiques markets. A famously creative region, you’ll find numerous paintings, sculptures and crafts from local contemporary artists filling the walls and adorning the shelves of the Barn itself.

Leave a reviewWe had a wonderfully gentle and relaxed stay at the Tack Barn for a few days at the end of March. Corina was an excellent host. The barn is beautiful inside and out, comfortably furnished and very well-equipped. The weather wasn’t great but this emphasised the cosy and secluded feel and meant that we got to use the log burner for real, rather than just effect. There is much to explore in the surrounding area: although truthfully, we were happy to get up late, make the most of the local produce for a lazy breakfast, mooch around a museum or the many independent shops in Lewes, returning to the barn in the afternoon to make the most of the cosy environment, games of cards or Monopoly and a glass of wine or two. Perfect!!

Loved every second of our stay. Great local area with plenty of places to eat, shop and explore. The barn itself was very clean and bigger than I expected. Corina was a very welcoming host that had taken every step to ensure we had a well stocked and comfortable stay. 11/10

A gem of a find! Very comfortable holiday home almost hidden in the woods. Cozy, well equipped and stylish with a great location and most welcoming hosts.

"what you see is what you get"....and more! We had a very pleasent stay and Corina was so kind and helpful. The cottage and it's very special setting is very comfortable and cosy, well equipped with much sylish details. The welcome-hamper and the fresh flowers were a delicious bonus. The house is well kept and in a clean and tidy manner. Have never seen such a detailed and precise description to the house. Don't miss to browse the area with it's cultural gems (Virginia Woolf at Monks' house and Carleston house and garden; Vanessa Bell - Bloomsbury group)

The Tack Barn is absolutely wonderful. Corina the host couldn’t be more helpful either. Communication from start to finish was as easy as it gets. Provided with a very useful hamper of basics on arrival was a great touch. The stay was great value, a very special find.

A wonderful experience! We had the best time. The juice from the orchard was delicious and it was a real treat to have vegetables from the garden! It was very relaxing and exactly the break we needed. Will definitely be back again.

We had an amazing weekend stay for our anniversary. I chose to book this as a surprise for my husband as it looked perfect for a romantic staycation being only 45 minutes from home. Tack Barn did not disappoint!!! Check in was easy peasy and everything we could possibly need had been catered for including a beautiful welcome hamper with local produce. Although close to home, we could have been anywhere nestled in the beautiful woodland overlooking the donkeys, horses and pond. Our days took us out to Lewes and a day trip on the Bluebell railway which I highly recommend. Our evenings were idyllic snuggled in front of the fire with a lovely glass of wine and we made use of the ample kitchen facilities and cooked up and romantic meal for 2. We took our telescope too as the night skies were perfect for star gazing and no light pollution. Corina and Dominic have added some beautiful touches to the barn and I especially loved the local artwork, pottery and textiles. Every thought has gone into making this a truly perfect getaway. My only regret is not being able to stay longer.

An absolutely beautiful setting, a stunning barn conversion set in the lush Sussex countryside. Our welcome was wonderful, the food hampers we ordered were delicious including veg from the garden and juice from the orchard. Every detail was thought of, the information provided so well considered, we were able to make the most of our stay to explore the area, have a relaxing time and really enjoy everything. So comfortable, so peaceful and just marvellous. Great hosts who really have thought about the details and clearly care about your stay and the environment. Highly recommend.

We have just had the most perfect week staying at this delightful property. It is rare to find somewhere for a holiday rental that has provided everything you could wish for and more, and this certainly does that. The barn itself is a joy, beautifully decorated and equipped with thoughtful additions throughout, such as the trug outside with a note inviting you to help yourself to vegetables from the owners (very lovely) garden. The location is great, sitting in the beautiful grounds of the family home (but with plenty of privacy ) where you can also meet up with local artists in their studios or pigs, chickens and donkeys! We loved the area, lots of fabulous walks and places to visit, including Lewes and Brighton - we never ran out of things to do. Highly recommended.

My husband and I found this little gem for a desperately needed break in March. It did not disappoint on any level - it has everything you need for an amazing relaxing time - even the odd chicken, donkey and dog to meet too. The host, Corina, is lovely and extremely knowledgable about the area and what you can do (she leaves you a little welcome pack of essentials too). The barn is kitted out with anything and everything you could want for cooking and relaxing. The surroundings are rural but there is so much to do within easy reach whether towns or walks. Lewes is not far and has amazing independent shops to mooch around! We will definitely be back and could not recommend this place to stay enough! Try it, you won't regret it!
