Enjoy a relaxing country break in this charming timber clad converted village hall in the marvellous Shropshire countryside
Up a stone path, set in a paddock within a walled garden sits this charming, comfy holiday home that's ideal for anyone looking to escape to the Shropshire Hills. Norbury Hall started life as the village hall, and has recently been lovingly converted into a self-catering cottage which sleeps up to six people. Updated using local materials and furniture to create a property with modern comforts while retaining the building’s historic charm, Norbury Hall is a delightful accommodation choice for families, friends, and combinations of couples looking to spend time in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.
With the main space cleverly retained by the renovating architects, Norbury Hall is built around a central living and communal area with high ceilings and exposed timber rafters. Bright timber finishes have been used internally, to create a high-end, cosy space which is comfortable all through the year. A large window and arrangement of soft furniture has been utilised to create a sitting-room style area within the open plan space. This is also where the wood-burning stove is found, a guaranteed source of hygge when loaded up with wood which has fallen around the estate.
Eclectic artwork hangs on the walls, and a gas-fired aga completes the sense of rustic comfort. There are two double bedrooms on the ground floor, which share a family-style bathroom, while upstairs in the eves of the former hall, a third bedroom with twin single beds benefits from its own en-suite shower room.
With its double-height interior and substantial living space, the cottage is a delight to spend time inside, while a veranda, patio, and the greenery of the estate create endless outside spots for those who like to feel the sun on their faces and hear the birds as they sit out with a book or a glass of wine, taking in the famous light of Shropshire evenings. Clad in sweet-smelling Cedar from trees which have been blown down naturally, Norbury Hall is a wonder to behold from the outside as well.
A real gem in the Shropshire landscape, the Walcot Estate is the area which Norbury Hall sits. With a collection of beautifully well preserved historic buildings, and acres of meadow and woodlands to roam, guests find that there are very few reasons to leave this area of the world. There is even an excellent country pub, The Powis Arms, right on the estate itself, serving fine local ales and brilliant food. Those wanting to venture further afield will find the local area abundant in natural beauty and small, family run businesses.
