For a delightful combination of rustic charm and modern luxury, look no further than The Cow Shed. In 2015, this charming farmland building was converted from an old - you've guessed it - cow shed. It now makes for a five-star luxury self-catering accommodation that sleeps up to six guests. Its location in the picturesque Snowdonia region makes for the perfect base for those wishing to explore some of the UK's most stunning countryside. So, whether you're a group of friends, a couple of couples, or a family, The Cow Shed is sure set your heart alight. Did we mention that there is an on-site heated swimming pool?
The owners have done their utmost to ensure that the rustic heritage of the building has been respected, with the exterior's original stonework remaining intact. While it is likely the oldest building on the historic Llanfendigaid Estate, The Cow Shed’s interior seamlessly blends traditional features with more contemporary comforts. Painted in refreshing greens to reflect its rural location, every room feels connected to the countryside and hills that surround the house. With large windows throughout, natural light floods into the house giving it a welcoming, refreshing air, while the vaulted ceilings provide a rustic appeal.
The living area is open planned, with a large corner sofa at one end and a modern wood burner at the other. The dining area (with an eight-seater table) benefits from a wall of floor to ceiling windows, providing guests with gorgeous views of the surrounding hills. The modern kitchen comes fully equipped with SMEG appliances, a hot tap and a state-of-the-art coffee machine. There are three bedrooms: two doubles with super king beds, both ensuite. One has a beautiful pink roll top bath and the other has a more earthy, neutral feel and a big walk-in shower. The twin bedroom is painted in a pretty shade of lavender and has its own bathroom with a traditional high-top toilet, walk in Burlington shower and Burlington sink.
Outside, the south-facing courtyard is the perfect spot to sit with a morning cuppa or an evening gin and tonic. Sheltered from the main winds, it’s a positive sun trap and unusually warm.
While staying on the estate, guests also have access to the indoor heated swimming pool to treat themselves to a dip after a busy day exploring. Little ones will love playing on the swing tyre and discovering the table tennis table. Guests are encouraged to walk up the hill behind the house and through the woodland to find the secret bench where they can truly admire the estate’s coastal location.
Due to the estate’s rural setting, it offers a relaxed environment for a stress-free getaway or get-together in beautiful Wales. Free from background noise and light pollution – the area is one of only eighteen International Dark Sky Reserves in the world – you can expect a soul-enriching stay and spectacular stargazing opportunities.
