Charming gamekeeper’s house, tucked away in the grounds of Leeds Castle and overlooking a pond, perfect for group trips.
Keeper’s House was once the home of the Gamekeeper of the beautiful Leeds Castle in Kent’s countryside. Set in a secluded part of the castle’s expansive grounds along a private driveway, the house overlooks the Weir Pond which is home to lots of wildlife. With plenty of room for up to ten guests, this is a wonderful countryside escape for big families or groups of friends.
Inside, you’ll find the house is full of character with lots of its original features beautifully preserved. There are inglenook fireplaces, exposed brick, stonework and beams and an Aga in the traditional country kitchen. The living room is perfect for cosy nights in curled up on comfy sofas in front of a good film. The gorgeous kitchen, which has a modern oven and hob in addition to the Aga, overlooks the pond. There’s even a little bar under the window in the next room where you can tuck into breakfast and watch the early morning mist rise from the pond.
There are five spacious bedrooms in total, comfortably sleeping up to ten adults. Each of these bedrooms has its own delightful character, from the grand master bedroom with its impressive king-sized mahogany sleigh bed, to the more quirky room at the top of the house with peacock patterned hangings over the bed. There are also three bathrooms, one on the ground floor with a luxurious roll-top bathtub and two shower rooms upstairs.
Outside, there is a pretty terraced garden overlooking the pond. This is the perfect spot to spend a peaceful summer’s afternoon with a book or to fire up the BBQ after a busy day exploring the castle and grounds. The house also has access to the Weir Pond which is well stocked with pike, carp and tench and you are welcome to fish within season if you have your own fishing permit.
A free pass to the castle is provided for each guest and you are free to wander the castle and its grounds during your stay. Leeds Castle was built by a Norman baron in the Middle Ages and has a rich 900-year history to learn about. It has been played host to many members of England’s royal family, even being used as a palace by Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. The grounds are also fascinating to explore. If you make it to the centre of the maze, the exit is through a stunning underground grotto with mosaics of shells and minerals lining the walls. Displays are put on regularly by the Birds of Prey Centre and there are also three beautifully landscaped gardens to discover.
Please note that the minimum stay for this property is 2 nights
