Hinterland House is a beautifully designed and deceptively large barn with a gorgeous garden, surrounded by 500 acres of working farmland. The barn makes a lovely holiday destination for a couple's romantic break, a larger family holiday or a group of friends looking to catch up around a fire under the stars.
The outside of the barn, which looks as though it grew naturally into its surrounding, belies a stunning modern but cosy interior. Despite its large size it has been cleverly divided into areas providing cosy nooks for snoozing and book reading as well as excellent communal areas for gathering and celebrating.
The kitchen and dining area could easily grace the pages of an interior design magazine. With high vaulted ceilings lined with sky lights, thick ornate wooden beams and a large farmhouse kitchen table, it's built for big family meals, long lazy suppers and morning coffee chats.
The living area is a on large mezzanine overlooking the kitchen and has a layout that gives people space to mingle or hide away on the chaise lounge in the corner with a good book and a cuppa whilst the wood burner warms toes. There are sofas, comfy armchairs and low tables here as well as a big TV and a desk.
The three bedrooms are simple, elegant and comfortable. One is a king size room, one a double and the final is a twin room with two singles suitable for children or adults alike. The master room has an ensuite with a large walk-in shower and there is an additional beautiful tiled bathroom with a bathtub and another large shower.
The garden is an absolute treat. Grab a morning coffee and head out of the French doors where you'll find a bench table for six that's great for alfresco dining on warm nights beneath fairy lights. Everything is wooden, including the large barrel shaped hot tub where you can lie back in the warm water with a glass of bubbles and marvel at how good life could be if you could just move to Cornwall.
There are deckchairs, a hammock and a meadow swing for you to claim, and tucked beneath a canopy of trees is an area with seating and a fire pit, a magical place to toast marshmallows, drink hot chocolate and stare up at the night sky.
The barn is equidistant from Bodmin Moor, The Tamar Valley, Dartmoor and the coast, so you're just half an hour's drive from some brilliant places to visit.
The hosts recommend Strawberry Fields, only eight miles away, which is an award-winning farm shop with a restaurant, butcher and artisan bakery with a deli open seven days a week.
For pints and dining out try Coombeshead Farm, a fabulous place that offers fine dining on a farm! The Coombe Barton Inn is a pub by a beautiful beach with fantastic views and good food. And you must stop off at the Electric Bakery for coffee, but expect a queue! You're ideally placed to visit Bude beach for surfing and sandcastle building too.
