Barn-style holiday cottage with a contemporary interior set amidst the fields of North Essex, perfect for rural retreats with family or friends.
Fox Hatch is set amidst the beautiful rural landscape of a working farm that has a history stretching back centuries. As part of The Fieldbarns at Bullocks, it sits on the edge of open fields overlooking the open countryside of the Rodings Valley. Designed in the style of a barn it is in keeping with the surroundings but with a modern twist. Inside, you’ll find contemporary decor, open plan living spaces and plenty of home comforts to help you relax and enjoy your countryside escape.
There is a large, open-plan living space with the kitchen at one end and the spacious seating area at the other. High ceilings and big windows overlooking the gardens and surrounding fields open the space up further. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you’ll need to whip up delicious meals to refuel the family after long countryside walks or busy afternoons exploring the local towns and villages. If you’d rather put your feet up and let someone else take care of the menu, you can order some home-prepared meals and treats which are locally sourced and make the most of seasonal ingredients. The kitchen island incorporates a breakfast bar and a big dining table in the centre of the living space with plenty of room for everyone.
In the living area, you’ll find a big comfy L-shaped sofa and an armchair gathered around a wood-burner and the TV. The perfect spot for some downtime with a book or for evenings in with a movie. Fox Hatch has two bedrooms each with large wardrobes, one with a king-size bed and the other with the option of twin beds or a super-king double. All the beds have handmade mattresses and are complete with Egyptian cotton linens and feather and down pillows and duvets. The Roman blinds with blackout linings are the final touch to ensure a great night’s sleep.
The barn overlooks a landscaped garden planted with a lovely combination of flowers, grasses and ornamental vegetables. Within the wildflower meadow, you’ll find some outdoor furniture along with a barbecue and fire pit so you can enjoy being outdoors well into the evening in the warmer months.
The farm’s location in North Essex by the Hertfordshire border means that there’s plenty of diverse countryside to explore, on foot or by bike. Try one of the footpaths through Great Canfield or Flitch Way which has a couple of cafes en-route. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to historic houses and gardens with English Heritage sites such as Audley End House and RHS Gardens like Hyde Hall. The Henry Moore Studios and Gardens are also nearby where you can discover some of the artist’s iconic sculptures at his former home. There are also some charming towns and villages to explore, such as the medieval Thaxted and Saffron Walden which has a wonderful market on Saturdays.
