This fabulous, contemporary holiday home has bagged itself a front row spot overlooking the sea and a wild shingle beach. Located in an area dubbed Britain’s only desert, and with the Dungeness Nature Reserve as a backdrop, you’ll really feel like you’ve got away from it all here.
Uniquely designed with huge glass walls to make the most of the stunning views and an original, internal railway carriage, El Ray promises an extraordinary seaside escape for couples, families or friends.
At the heart of the home, you’ll find the open-plan living space, with floor-to-ceiling windows to maximise the incredible ocean vistas and bring the outside in. The seating area has been configured to make the most of the uninterrupted views, the south-facing windows flood the area with natural light and a central wood burner ensures that you’ll stay cosy on a chilly evening. This area also has a dining table for four, where you can enjoy a sociable meal overlooking the desert-like landscape.
The bespoke kitchen is built around an original 19th century railway carriage. Kitted out with all the mod-cons, it seamlessly blends the old and the new to create a practical yet interesting space. Here you can brew a morning coffee, prepare yourself a snack or cook a hearty meal, all while taking in the vast sea views.
The two calming double bedrooms share a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower, sink and WC. Each bedroom overlooks an internal courtyard, sheltered from the sea breeze, ideal for sitting and soaking up the sun.
El Ray also boasts a wooden deck which is accessed through bi-fold doors from the living area. This sheltered spot is perfectly positioned to enjoy 180-degree views of the beach and sea, maybe with your favourite book or cocktail in hand.
At El Ray you’ll have the Dungeness Nature Reserve, with its unique landscape and abundant wildlife, on your doorstep. With mile-upon-mile of open shingle, dunes and meadows to explore, the area is popular with walkers and photographers alike. Nearby you’ll also find a miniature steam railway, a lighthouse with panoramic views from the top and the Dungeness Fish Hut where you can pick up the catch of the day.
