Located in the small village of Ham near the Wiltshire market town of Marlborough, this charming inn has been given a modern update without losing any of its traditional charm.

When it comes to the accommodation there are plenty of options to ensure maximum versatility. For couples there is a king room or a superior king room, but both of which can be converted into twin rooms depending on the preference. Every room has its own private en-suite bathroom and a flat screen TV, while an a la carte breakfast is included as part of the stay.

Breakfast is served in the excellent restaurant, while there is also a bar, and WiFi throughout. Outside of the Crown and Anchor is a terrace and garden that those staying can enjoy when the weather is fine and there is also free parking on-site.

Marlborough itself is home to many characterful old buildings and has preserved its history to great effect. For example, on the high street the Merchant’s House dates back to the 17th Century and boasts many original features, paintings, and artefacts. In the grounds of Marlborough College is Merlin’s Mound - said to be the burial site of Merlin the wizard.

As well as its rich past the town is bustling, with its market held twice a week, its array of independent shops, and its chic cafe culture. There are also annual festivals celebrating and promoting both jazz music and literature. Yet the town is surrounded by natural beauty, with both Savernake Forest and the North Wessex Downs extremely popular with walkers.

Both Swindon and Newbury are also within easy reach of the inn, as is the English Heritage and world famous Stonehenge. For those who enjoy history then the castles of Donnington, Ludgershall, and Highclere are all within 9 miles of Crown and Anchor, while a day at the races at Newbury Racecourse is recommended for both avid horse racing fans and casual visitors alike.
