Magnificent character filled 16th Century Scottish tower that has been renovated to the highest standards and is just 40 miles from Edinburgh
Perfectly placed to explore the rolling countryside of the Scottish borders, Aikwood Tower is a luxurious, wholesome base with an intimate yet stately feel. Step inside the 16th Century tower and revere in its colourful past of border raids, wizards and the writings of Sir Walter Scott; you can immediately sense that within the history of these walls are the stories of which legends are made.
Renovated to the highest of standards the character of this property has been maintained through quality craftsmanship and mixes modern luxuries with the distinguished features of its past. Its stone spiral staircases, original oak doors, exposed stonework walls, and vaulted ceilings are combined with sumptuous furnishings, fully equipped kitchen, and entertainment mod cons.
There are five separate living areas on offer including; The Great Hall with its huge open stone fireplace and lounge seating; the intimate study; the kitchen/dining area with its unique arched whitewashed ceiling and AGA cooker; Laich Hall complete with table tennis and family games; and the Gallery, an entertainment lounge area with TV, DVD player and laptop.
All of the five double bedrooms present a natural feel of understated luxury. The wooden floors and quality furniture are topped only by the extravagant Duxiana beds, which are renowned for their pure and unadulterated comfort. If that wasn’t enough, each bedroom also comes with its own en-suite bathroom to complete the ultimate package.
There is a charming walled garden, containing orchard, croquet lawn and terrace, within the Tower grounds but it is the countryside around this property where you can get truly inspired. Surrounded by the rolling landscape of the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys, the area is perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers alike. There are great country walks all around the area and magnificent Osprey’s to spot.
For sport and adventure lovers, the Glentress Forest, renowned for its many great and challenging mountain bike trails, is only a 30 minute drive away. River kayaking is also a favourite here. For a more relaxed break, the championship golf courses of Roxburghe and Cardrona are within easy reach for day trips and, for the country enthusiasts, there are also great places for fishing and shooting in the area of the close by River Ettrick. It is also worth mentioning the cultural and historical delights of Edinburgh are just a little over one hour away.
So, whether it be for the luxurious living, the sense of history or the great country environment you won’t be disappointed with a stay at Aikwood Tower.
