This beautifully crafted cabin, located near the charming town of Melrose, is a cosy hideaway for a family escape to the Scottish Borders. Hawk’s Brae will particularly suit those looking for somewhere to reconnect with nature without having a big impact on the environment. Built using sustainably sourced Scottish Douglas Fir and by a local log builder, the environmental impact of the cabin has been kept to a minimum. The central heating is provided by an air source heat pump and the firewood for the log burner and the hot tub also comes from local, sustainable sources. Even the turf roof of the cabin has been designed to help the building blend in with the natural landscape. This doesn’t mean you have to leave any luxuries behind with underfloor heating to keep you cosy while you enjoy the fabulous views of the Eildon Hills from the comfort of the sofa, or perhaps from the hot tub.
The interior of the cabin feels spacious and airy with double-height ceiling in the open plan living space. Big windows flood the room with natural light while large doors lead straight out onto the patio or let you enjoy the view while you tuck into breakfast at the table. It’s all set up for cosy evenings in with the family with a log burner, a Smart TV, board games and Bluetooth speakers. There’s also a fully-equipped kitchen and you can choose between eating at the table indoors or taking your meals outside where you’ll find more dining furniture.
There are two bedrooms, one downstairs and one tucked away under the apex of the roof upstairs. Both have a cosy feel with the Douglas Fir logs on show and they can be made up with super king-size doubles or with two single beds. They both have their own ensuites with luxurious rainfall showers and you’ll find fluffy towels and robes waiting for you.
Outside, there’s a fully enclosed garden, perfect for those who want to bring the dog along with them. On sunny days, sit out on the deck while something sizzles away on the BBQ and soak up the scenery. The wood fired hot tub is the perfect place to relax and watch the sunset over the surrounding hills. In the evenings, gather around the firepit and plan the next day’s adventures as you toast marshmallows and do a bit of stargazing.
The cabin is located just half a mile away from the town of Melrose and you can walk to the centre in just 15 minutes or hop in the car and be there in two. Stroll through the charming winding streets, along the River Tweed or explore the stunning medieval Abbey. To get some stunning panoramic views of the area, hike to the nearby Eildon Hills where you’ll also find plenty of fascinating local flora and fauna. Learn about the art of making whisky at the Border Distillery or go for a scenic cycle along the Tweed Valley Railway Path.
