Retreat to a beautiful, secluded holiday home with a trip to Hollin House, Northumberland, a renovated stone house minutes from the National Park.
Combining something old with something new, Hollin House is a renovated stone home immersed in the depths of rural Northumberland. Originally built in 1894 by Sir Charles Morrison-Bell, Hollin House is the embodiment of local history, occupying the rear wing of Highgreen Manor. Impressively designed by CW Ancell, Hollin House retains its sense of tradition whilst offering something new. Acquired by locals William and Cynthia Morrison-Bell, the renovations were completed in 2022 and Hollin House was reborn, energised for the modern age.
Sleeping 10, this home is apt for any family reunion. Originally a farm worker’s house, the property is now bright and airy, offering up five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Fully accessible, the property is equipped with a wheelchair-friendly downstairs bedroom and wetroom. Endlessly quaint, the fireplace in the sitting room harks back to the property’s origins, with the entrance and staircase employing wood from the estate to envisage this new detail.
On the ground floor lies the kitchen, utility room, dining room, sitting room and downstairs bedroom, and culinary experts will be delighted to learn that it includes integrated appliances, a large freestanding fridge-freezer and a central kitchen island and seating apt for a sociable family breakfast. Dinner can be enjoyed in the pretty dining room with space for your whole group to enjoy delicious meals long into the night. There's also a small desk here should anyone need to check their emails or catch up on some work.
When it comes to socialising, the cosy lounge has three big, comfy sofas, meaning you can all gather round with a glass of something nice come the evening. This room also has plenty of books to read, as well as a TV for movie nights and a piano for added entertainment!
Upstairs, bedrooms one and three host a king-sized bed with an ensuite shower, and bedrooms two and four are furnished with twin beds. Linen and towels are included. After a long day out exploring the marvellous local scenery, be sure to enjoy a relaxing soak in the freestanding bath tub, the perfect way to end the day.
Immersed in the throes of the famous Northumberland National Park, Hollin House is steeped in nature. One of the most poignant spots for stargazing amidst the dark skies, the National Park offers up an array of invigorating outdoor activities from the impressive Harseshaw Linn, a wild waterfall, to the Simonside Family Walk. Nature lovers will delight in a visit to Sycamore Gap, one of the most famous trees in the UK standing in a dramatic dip in the legendary Hadrian’s Wall. Situated in High Green, the area offers up a range of culinary delights including Bouchon Bistrot Hexham, Saathi, Forresters Arms and The Black Bull. There’s something for everyone.
