Hidden away amidst fairytale surroundings on an estate in the Scottish Borders, the completely charming Garden Cottage sleeps up to four guests in style. Set on the edge of a gorgeous walled garden and surrounded by magnificent woodland, this elegant little stone cottage invites you to unplug from everyday life and enjoy the truly superb location. The estate is called The Yair, inspired by the Old Scots word for a fish trap, and it will delight outdoor enthusiasts with all sorts of activities to try, including a spot of fishing in the famous River Tweed.
Step inside this snug and stylish cottage and you’ll immediately feel at home thanks to the warm and welcoming decor. There’s a deep, comfy sofa and squishy armchairs in the living room, gathered around a wood-burning stove with a basket of logs ready and waiting. The kitchen has a country cottage feel, with wooden worktops, slate grey units and beams crisscrossing the ceiling. A full range of modern appliances makes cooking here a pleasure.
Upstairs, the double and twin bedrooms are relaxing spaces with sloping ceilings and chic colour palettes. The bedrooms share a bathroom with a large walk-in shower with a luxurious rainfall showerhead. You’ll find sumptuous beds, complete with crisp white linen and fluffy bath towels waiting for you. Throw open the windows when you wake up and take in the views of the beautiful surrounding gardens and woodland.
On sunny mornings, take advantage of the splendid gardens and have your coffee and breakfast outside. You’ll also have access to a private tennis court, shared with the other three holiday cottages on the estate. Any keen fishermen are invited to cast a line in The Yair’s three-mile private section of the River Tweed to fish for trout between April and September.
The cottage is located in the heart of the Scottish Borders and there are plenty of other outdoor activities on offer. The Southern Upland Way is accessible nearby, along with countless other walking routes and the Glentress mountain biking centre will equip you to take on some world-class mountain biking routes. For a more leisurely activity, there are plenty of historic houses, castles and abbeys to discover and several excellent distilleries and breweries.
